I. RATIONALE

The Every Child A Reader Program (ECARP) is a national program


that addresses the thrust of DepEd to make every Filipino child a reader at
his/her own level. It is designed to equipped elementary pupils with
strategic reading and writing skills to make them independent young
readers and learners.

This program is proposed to equip Grade-One pupils with enhanced


reading ability. Early Grade Assessment Tool (EGRA) will be used to
diagnose one’s reading ability and to know the level where the teacher
should start. Parental involvement is also a crucial part of the program. The
proponent envisioned learning beneficial both to parents and children
through collaboration and participation in this once a week activity.
II. OBJECTIVES:

The project is geared towards the following targets:


A. Categorize pupils according to their reading ability
B. Provide reading materials suited to one’s reading capability
C. Promote reading to pupils through parent-teacher partnership
D. Increase parent’s awareness about reading and how to enrich the
ability of their child.

III. STRATEGIES AND IMPLEMENTATION

1. First, the teacher will use EGRA Tool to assess pupils reading ability.
2. The proponent will going to ask for a parents’ meeting and discuss about
the proposed program.
3. The teacher will going to teach parents the sounds of every letter.
4. Give the reading materials to parents and decide when willreading
evaluation will start.
5. Let parents choose their partner in evaluating their kids. It is more
convenient for a child if s/he knows who will guide them to read.
6. Reading evaluation will be done every Friday, 10:30-12:00 noon
respectively. Rescheduling will be a case to case basis.
7. The next reading materials will be given when the previously given reading
materials is perfectly read.
8. Every perfect reading template is equivalent to gold star (10 points) which
can be exchanged to exciting items.
9. Signing to wall of agreement signifies willingness to collaborate and
cooperate towards success of this program

A contextualize reading materials will be provided to each pupils to


monitor their reading ability progression.

NARRATIVE REPORT

The Every Child a Reader Program (ECARP) is a national program


that addresses the thrust of DepEd to make every Filipino child a reader at
his/her own level. It was designed to equipped elementary pupils with
strategic reading and writing skills to make them independent young
readers and learners.

This program was proposed to equip Grade-One pupils with


enhanced reading ability. Early Grade Assessment Tool (EGRA) will be
used to diagnose one’s reading ability and to know the level where the
teacher should start. Parental involvement is also a crucial part of the
program. The proponent envisioned learning beneficial to both parents and
children through collaboration and participation in this once a week activity.

During implementation, some parents were hesitant to come to


school during their schedule. However, through continuous encouragement
of the teacher, 85 % successfully participated in the program. The
remaining 15 % were those parents who got work from far places and
children lived in with their guardians only.

The Division Reading Committee came to validate the result.
