CASE STUDY

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The case study focuses on the impact of on-the-job training of

students of the GBHFI in BFP Binan, FS Laguna. As we all know, the recent

school year of GBHFI is an online class and the students are not prepared

physically or mentally due to the recent lockdown where outdoor activities are

restricted, so the students are not in condition for physical and mental

exercises. Therefore, the criminology intern of this agency must keep up with

BFP staff members in terms of their activities and training. However, the

criminology intern is struggling to keep up with the personnel, particularly on

the first day of their internship. For examples, on Monday morning, bfp binan

personnel woke up early to attend a flag-raising ceremony at the municipal

and afternoon they conduct a routine exercise that is made up of

armydosen. That's why it's a big adjustment for the students, especially after

they've been in a lockdown where they weren't allowed to participate in

outdoor activities and couldn't get any exercise. On the other hand, the longer

we work for this agency, the more our body and mind adjust to it.

BACKROUND

Since October 2022, the 4th GBHFI students first began their

OJT in BFP Binan, FS Laguna. Based on the observation the BFP personnel

is active of teaching of their work, Since there won't always be a fire incident,

the BFP staff spends a lot of time teaching. Moreover, educating students

allows BFP staff to refresh and practice their skills, activities include hose
throwing and proper folding, basic ropemanship and knots tying,

donning/doffing PPE and SCBA and Firefighting ,these are just a few of the

various jobs performed by BFP staff. Howeever, we have to finish the OJT by

the given time because it is a requirement of the criminology curriculum. Even

though the criminology interns are struggling because they come from an

online class and a lockdown situation, they must strengthen their bodies and

minds in order to complete the tasks that the personnel set for them. Before a

student may graduate, they have traditionally had to complete an internship or

on-the-job training program. Students have the opportunity to encounter the

real world during internships and learn important lessons and skills that they

will use in their chosen vocation.

CASE EVALUATION

The primary concern or issue raised by this case study is

lacking in exercise and mental conditioning of OJT trainees and especially in

time management, which is why the trainees have difficulty in the activities

provided by BFP personnel because they are not exposed to activities like

this. The only problem one should have during on-the-job training is a lack of

self-esteem. They are being trained, not expected to know everything in one

day. Experience is gained through time. The longer they do something, the

more they learn. The faster they gain knowledge and become productive

trainees.

PROPOSED SOLUTION
The following criminology college students who will partake in

an OJT at a BFP must be prepared, mentally and physically fit, and they must

maintain the discipline.

Be Physically Fit

Being physically fit will help you pass rigid training givin by BFP personnel. To

give you an idea of what lies ahead, you’ll be carrying a dummy much heavier

than you or holding a high-pressure fire hose on the training. Similarly, an

agility test is required to qualify for the training. In order to pass the agility test,

you must train yourself on cardio exercises, pull-ups, push-ups and sit-ups.

Being a firefighter is a noble profession. Not everyone can put their lives on

the line to save people they do not know.

CONCLUSION

The On-the-Job Training is very helpful to student continue to take

their journey as student in the field of Criminology. It really gave a taste of the

real world. After the training, I learned that OJT is not just a requirement to be

completed but it is an opportunity to show what skills, knowledge and talents

that I have and also an opportunity to experience the feeling of being a

professional already.

RECOMMENDATION

Give the trainees enough time to properly perform the activities

given to them, and not distressing their mental and especially their physical.
And it would be better if the OJT days were consecutive days without skipping,

Because of the missed day and lack of time, especially in the fourth year

when their ojt coincides with academics, they forget the training and activities

they completed that day so when the comings evaluation they forget small

things about activity and that's why the evaluation score gotten by trainee is

lower.

IMPLEMENTATION

The BFP personnel will conduct an agility test on OJT students

in order to select those who are physically fit, and those selected who are

strong and healthy will be given difficult activities. Similarly, an agility test is

required to qualify for the training program. In order to pass the agility test,

you must train yourself on cardio exercises like pull-ups, push-ups, and sit-

ups. Those who do not pass the qualifications will be observing to other

classmates while performing activities, assigned to the office, or given time to

get ready before doing the activities so as to avoid accidents or body injuries

due to overtraining.
