So, A modal verb is a type of auxiliary verb that
is used to indicate modality-that is likelihood,
ability, permission, possibility. And that would
be our lesson for today. It is all Modals and its
different functions.
C. ABSTRACTION
So class, at the end of today’s lesson, we will be
able to obtain the following objectives:

2. May/Might
We use may to express a formal permission
or request. And we use might to express a
possibility.
Example:

(Permission) She may forget it. The modal verb is May.
Our boss might help you in your problem
(Possibility)
He may not understand it. (Possibility)

(Request)

Next we have,
3. Must/Must not (Mustn't)
We use must to express a strong command
and must not or need not for a strong
prohibition. You must not forget to eat you breakfast.
The modal verb is Must not.
Example:
You must not forget to take your
medicine. (Strong Prohibition)
We must stop when the traffic lights
turned red (Strong command)

Next we have,
4. Shall/Should and Oath to
We use shall should and ought to, to
express a formal suggestion advice or
obligation.
Shall is used when the speaker is sure to
receive a positive answer to the question.
We only use the subjects "I" or "we" in
this modals.
Should on the other hand is used when
the speaker is unsure to receive a positive
answer to the question. Also used to give
advice.

5. Will/Would
It is used to express future actions, express a
polite wish or request, order and prediction.
Would you like some coffee? The modal
Example: verb is would?
I will see you soon. (Future Action)
Will you come to my party? (wish or
requests)
You will tell me the truth.
(ordering/commandeering)
I think it will rain today. (Prediction)
I guess you would look gorgeous on that
red dress (Prediction)
