94N 69N
2. Calculate the magnitude and direction of the resultant force in each case:
3. Calculate the weight of an object, if it’s mass is 12.05 kg. (Given g= 10 m/s2)
4. What is the mass of an object whose weight is 49N? (Given g= 9.8 m/s2)
5. A luggage weights 275N on moon. Find its weight on the earth in Newton and dyne.
6. The mass of an object 250kg on the earth. What is its mass on the moon?
7. Calculate the pressure if a force of 23N is applied over an area of 46m2.
8. What is the magnitude of force required to produce a pressure of 37500 Pa on an area of
300cm2
9. In a game of tug of war, three girls of team A pull the rope with force of 100N, 120N and
170N. In team B, three members pull the rope with forces of 130N, 150N, and 155N. Who
will win the game? And also mention the direction of the resultant force.
10. Calculate the pressure exerted on the floor by a boy standing on both feet if the weight of the
boy is 40 kg (Assume that the area of contact of each shoe is 6cm by 25 cm.) 1kg wt. = 10 N
11. A force of 125N is distributed uniformly on one surface of a cube of edge 10cm. Find the
pressure exerted in S.I and CGS unit.
12. The mass of a brick is 5kg and its dimensions are 10cm× 5cm × 20cm. Find the pressure
exerted by the brick on the ground, if it is made to lie with its sides of dimensions-
a) 10cm × 5cm
b) 5cm × 20cm
c) 10cm × 20cm (Given g= 10 m/s2)
13. An iron box of dimensions 4cm × 8cm × 12 cm is placed on a table. Find the pressure
exerted by it in three different placements. Also arrange the pressure exerted by the box in
ascending order. (Given m= 20 kg, and g = 9.8 m/s2)
V. Value based questions:
Vivek went for a mountaineering camp with his friends. When they reached the mountain
top, one of his friends experienced heavy nose bleeding. Vivek rushed him to the camp and
gave him first aid. His friend was very disturbed and couldn’t understand the reason for his
nose bleeding.
Now, answer the following questions.
1. Can you explain the possible reason for Vivek’s friends nose bleeding?
2. What value was shown by Vivek in this incidence?
VI. Give reasons for the following:
1. Wooden planks are kept below the railway tracks.
2. Heavy load trucks have 8 or more tyres and their tyres are broader.
3. It is easier to pierce a cardboard with a pin having sharp pointed tip.
4. Cooking is difficult in mountainous regions.
5. Deep sea divers wear a specially designed suit. Atmospheric pressure decreases as we
go higher up above the earth's surface.
6. Buildings and dams are made broader at the base than at the top.
7. A sharp knife cuts better than a blunt knife.
8. It is easier to walk on soft sand if you have flat shoes rather than shoes with pointed
heels.
