PURPOSE :
Plain cement concrete is the mixture of cement, fine aggregate(sand) and coarse
aggregate without steel. PCC is an important component of a building which is laid on the
soil surface to avoid direct contact of reinforcement of concrete with soil and water.
SCOPE:
The scope covers the work method for transportation, placing, finishing and curing of
plain cement concrete in foundation of buildings etc. complete.
REFERANCE STANDARDS:
Site GFC drawings.
IS:456- IS:456 Plain and Reinforced Concrete - Code of Practice
IS:10262 Concrete Mix Proportioning Guidelines
IS SP:23- Handbook on concrete mixes
IS:4926-Code of practice for Ready Mix Concrete
Lay out shall be carried out with the help of Total Station/Auto Level and mark on the
pits where PCC Shall carried out. Ensure that the instrument shall be calibrated as per
standard. Setting out check list shall be filled and maintained.
Provide shuttering for sides for PCC works. Mark Levels by using levelling
instrument either with the nails on sides of form work or put level pads on ground.
Latest mix design for concrete shall be available on site. Mix Design and trials of mix
shall be carried out as per the requirements of IS 456:2000 to check workability,
setting time, actual density, strength and cement consumption (yield).
Produced Concrete from in house batching plant or order shall be given to the
approved RMC supplier as per the site requirement.
The concrete shall be procured from in house batching plant or approved RMC
supplier after obtaining the Pour card approved by the client’s representative.
Transport the concrete produced by the batching plant by suitable transport like transit
mixer, concrete pump or other means.
The concrete shall be consumed within 2hrs time limit and not to withhold the
concrete for long time.
Ensure that no extra water added in the concrete which affects the quality of the
concrete.
Surface shall be made free of loose materials & oil, grease if any vegetation etc,
concrete shall not be poured in water logged pits, water shall be removed by suitable
means of water removal.
The concrete shall be unloaded into the chute or others, maximum drop height of
concrete shall not be more than 1m if so chute shall be used with slope not exceeding
45˚.
Pour the concrete in the correct location and in sequence to avoid the double handling
and save the time and thus increase the productivity.
Compact the concrete to the required level and proper surface finish shall be done.
Clean out all loose concrete and keep the concreted area neat and clean.
Remove the sides of PCC and the stripping time will be as per specifications.
Curing of concrete with approved water ponding or spreading shall start after 8 hours
of placement of concrete and in hot weather after 4 hours. Concrete will be cured for a
minimum period of seven days from the date of placing of concrete.
