    - The narrator arrived at Gatsby's lawn party around 7pm and wandered around feeling out of place among many people he did not know. - He noticed many young, well-dressed Englishmen at the party who seemed hungry and were talking earnestly to try and sell bonds or cars to the wealthy Americans in attendance. - When he arrived, he tried to find his host Gatsby, but the people he asked about Gatsby's whereabouts seemed amazed by the question and denied knowing anything about him, so the narrator went to the cocktail table by himself.
