Subject: Time Sensitive Documentatior^egarain^MOason Miller

Good evening,

My name is Kristen Nilsen, and I am currently Mr. Jason Miller's clinician at Sagebrush Residential Treatment Facility
for substance use and co-occurring disorders. I apologize for emailing you directly.

Mr. Miller is unable to leave this facility for trial, and as such he is requesting a stay in any proceedings. My attestation
that is attached. (I initially provided documentation to his attorney on 7/31/19, but I understand that it was not
submitted into evidence because I was not delivering it directly).

I have also attached Mr. Miller’s personal statement regarding his treatment needs.
I am available to conference call or video call if that is necessary. My professional opinion is that he is highly likely to
pose a grave risk to himself should he leave treatment at this time. It is facility policy that he cannot access electronic
communications (text, email, cell phone, etc) during the duration of his stay, but I have CC'd him on this email so that it
is on record.

Thank you for your consideration,

Best,
Kristen

Dear Judge Sarduy,

Iapologize for reaching out to you directly, but I am not in position to follow formal protocol and I

realize certain legal deadlines are rapidly approaching.

Inrecent months the anxiety and depression I have been battling have become unbearable. I am
suffering from daily panic attacks, I no longer want to leave the house if it involves interacting with other
people, the stress-driven wobbly legs symptoms I'm experiencing make it difficult to walk even short
distances, my drinking has become problematic and I've had frequent (if not daily) thoughts of ending
my own life.

Realizing that the anxiety and depression, as well as my drinking, have grown well beyond my control, I

was admitted Tuesday, July 30, 2019, into an inpatient recovery center (Sagebrush Residential
Treatment Facility) for at least the next 30 days, and I may be transferred to an outpatient
program
afterward.
Your honor, I need to get healthy so I can be a better person, a better husband to better
my wife and a
father to all three of my children, which includes becoming better physically so I can reenter the
workforce to the best of my abilities.

As you know have taken these legal proceedings very seriously. I have had the same family law
I

attorney from the beginning of this journey until recently when I could no longer afford to do so, I have
never sought to recuse a Judge and I have never before asked to delay a trial. I very much want to
bring
these matters to a full conclusion as soon as possible, but I can't do that while simultaneously
completing this treatment program to get myself into better health.
Because of my current medical state and residency at the Sagebrush Residential Treatment
Facility in
Virginia, I cannot file the necessary paperwork to become a pro se litigant, enter a pre-trial catalogue or
even begin the process of looking for new legal representation should my financial
positioning improve.
Therefore, I am respectfully requesting a stay of our upcoming family court trial for at least 45-60 days.
If you would like to set up a call with myself and/or my psychiatrist, I can make us available for that.

Sincerely,

Jason Miller

To the Honorable Judge George A. Sarduy,

This letter is to inform you that Mr. Jason Miller has been admitted into Sagebrush Residential
Treatment Facility as of Tuesday 7/30/19, for treatment for depression, anxiety, and related
substance use disorders.

The clinical recommendation for his stay is 30-45 or more days. This will evolve as his treatment
progresses. During his stay, he will not have any access to email, phone, text, and other external
communication as this is a 24-hour residential facility. As such, I respectfully confirm that he will
not be able to file his pre-trial catalogue, nor update his legal representation at this time, due to
facility regulations and clinical recommendations.

After clinically assessing Mr. Miller, it is my professional opinion that he is highly likely to pose a
grave danger to himself if he were to leave the treatment facility. Mr. Miller has experienced
suicidal ideation in recent days, and his safety and wellbeing are contingent upon him remaining in
residential care to work through his mental health and substance use disorders.

Iunderstand that this may not be the best way to communicate this to you, but given the time
sensitivity and his lack of ability to communicate himself, I wanted to ensure that this is on record.
Please contact me if you need to confirm with me via phone.

Thankyou and best regards,

Kristen Nilsen, MS, NCC, Resident in Counseling
