Adityawarman Museum
Adityawarman Museum is a cultural site located in Western Sumatera,
precisely in Jalan Diponegoro 10, Padang. It is widely known by local as State Museum of Western Sumatera. Here, you can see exhibition of items with great value of culture embraced by the locals, especially Minangkabau and Mentawai culture. This museum was inaugurated on March 16th 1977. It was also given the name “Adityawarman”. It was not just any name. The name itself is actually a reference to Adityawarman, one of Malayapura Kingdom’s former king in the 14th century. This museum was constructed in 3 years (1974-1977) on a ground of 2,4 hectares. When you enter the museum from the front gate, you can see how the outer design of this museum was shaped in a traditional Minangkabau house style. Lengthwise-built house and roof with arches at both end are prominent aspects of this building. Walking inside, you will see the collections at Adityawarman Museum are divided into 10 sections, namely geology, biology, ethnography, archeology, history, numismatic, philology, art, ,ceramics, and technology. This museum has a diorama to represents custom system that the locals own. It structurally explains how brotherhood works and how crucial it is in their tradition. That diorama is located in the museum’s main chamber. Aside from that, you will find a showroom of traditional Minangkabau wedding in the corner of the building. This particular spot is so famous among tourists. You can also rent their traditional wedding garments and have local photographer capturing your family photo with affordable offers.
