Repairing Procedure on Fluorocarbon coating of Fasteners

1.0 Surface preparation


1.1 Mechanical cleaning shall be performed using Hand wire brush or 80- 100grit emery paper
per SSPC – SP 2. Remove any rust or loose coating. If there is no rust or loose coating
move to step 1.2
1.2 Remove any dust or rust residue with appropriate solvent or alkaline cleaner per SSPC-SP1

2.0 Painting
2.1 Painting operation shall immediately follow the surface preparation step, but no more
than 4 hours after step 1.2.
2.2 Painting shall not be performed if the substrate temperature is less than the surrounding
air temperature or relative humidity is greater than 85% or if the air temperature is not
greater than 5-degree F above the dew point.
2.3 Apply repair paint in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
2.4 Repair paint must be within manufacturer’s shelf life.
2.5 Apply paint by brush with good workmanship; there should be no runs, drips or sags.

3.0 Paint system.


3.1 Primer coat shall be Intergard 291(AkzoNobel International Paint), the recommended Dry
Film Thickness range is 75 microns/2.9mils.
3.2 Topcoat shall be Interthane 990(AkzoNobel International Paint) RAL 5009 ( Azure blue),
the recommended Dry Film Thickness shall be 50microns / 2.0mils.

4.0 Final Inspection


4.1 Visual inspection
4.2 Ensure the repair paint has dried within the manufactures recommended time.
4.3 Look for runs, drips, sags or incomplete coverage
4.4 Check adhesion with fingernail, the repair paint should not disband.
4.5 If any of above are not correct the procedure must be started over from step 1

5.0 Preventive Action Plan;


5.1 Special TBM to be done by related subcontractor for using proper tool and prevention of
handling damage
5.2 The damage in the coating shall be repaired as soon as possible.

The International Paint (IP) products are the following and process as below:

1. Intergard 291- as per PDS a two-component epoxy anti-corrosive primer . The fast drying and
handling properties, together with extended overcoatability, make this an excellent primer for
factory application prior to full system application on site. Intergard 291 provides good
abrasion resistance which minimizes mechanical damage in transit between the factory and
site. Volume of solids 53% .
2. Interthane 990 - as per PDS , A two pack, acrylic polyurethane finish giving excellent durability
and long term recoatability. As a cosmetic finish on above water areas. Suitable for use on
topsides, external superstructure, external decks and boot tops. For use at Newbuilding,
Maintenance & Repair or On Board . Volume of Solids 57%.
