WORLD PROBLEMS
Social media has developed to play a significant role in the lives of numerous individuals

through a range of websites and apps. People can communicate with one another and share

thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Although social networking has various negative impacts,

it also has some very significant advantages. Throughout this research, we will identify how

social media could be utilized to address global challenges. In this article, three primary points

are being made: First, that social media may help us halt violations of human rights; second, that

social media is a crucial component of any business development; and third, various examples of

how social media has aided in the resolution of global issues.

Facebook and Twitter's policy decisions have an impact on worldwide freedom of speech. Every

day, these internet users spend about 2.5 hours on social media. What do these figures imply for

human rights? The human rights issues raised by the use of online social media for political

activism. Blogs, videos, and social networking sites have become such a key forum for political

debate and organization that they have provoked counter-responses from some repressive states.

"Racism, in all of its forms, is the under-acknowledged human rights problem of our day"

(Bradley,2019,p.2). Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, which was the most inspirational first

against racism, was sparked by George Floyd's murder in Minneapolis in May 2020. The black

lives matter movement adopted its original stance on social networking sites, relying on the

social capital of websites such as Twitter and Facebook to spread its message by using the

hashtag #blacklivesmatter. In this issue, several eyewitness accounts of police violence and

racism have appeared on social media in the form of videos and photographs shot on mobile

phones. Black lives matter activists now understand the importance of harnessing social media,

and groups with a similar message are beginning to use social media as an effective tool to

organize protests, fundraise for causes such as legal fees for protesters, and promote activism
with the use of hashtags. As a result, more black Americans have become involved in politics,

forcing presidential candidates to appeal to their views. Despite the continual movement toward

change, many people who understand racism and agree with the movement are reluctant to take

action out of fear. These points show that social media is a key ally in the task of protection and

promotion of human rights. It exposes human rights violations and seeks justice.

Internal communication and public relations are undergoing a fast transformation as a result of

today's social media platforms. Back in the day, businesses only can promote their products and

services through television advertising, newspapers, posters, and radio. In recent years, Social

media has taken the world by storm, and almost everyone now has internet access. With the huge

majority of people spending a lot of time digitally, businesses discovered a wealth for marketing.

It is now hard to imagine marketing without social media, just as it is difficult to envision Earth

without water. Finding consumers is one of the most difficult aspects of running a business.

However, the difficulty is even greater for small businesses. That is obvious; we must use social

media marketing, which is low-cost, energy-efficient, and can even improve brand exposure.

This resulted in significant changes in the way businesses approached marketing. For instance,

Facebook knows about us is personally terrifying, their advertising tool is phenomenal.

"Facebook launched Shops across its network in May 2020, social selling has been on the

upswing. Brands can now use social media as an e-commerce channel, uploading products that

can be purchased directly from the network. According to data from China, 70% of Gen Z

customers make purchases directly through social media" (The 11 Most Effective Marketing

Trends You Need to Know in 2022, n.d). The banking industry is critical to the modern

economy, while economics is significant in global commerce. Businesses around the world have

evolved to rely heavily on banks for a wide range of financial services. However, in recent years,
social media has become an increasingly useful tool for banks. For very little cost, banks can

reach a large and fast-growing target audience - mobile, online, and socially connected.

Banks entered the new media stream in 2008, carrying out research into social media

marketing, and the impact it has on banks in general. 62% of banks responded they don't

use social media, while 22% said they wanted to start using social and new media

marketing in 2009. At this point (2012), the social media community has witnessed a

significant shift in the sector. However, the market has experienced significant expansion

in the social media market, and as such, there should be a new huge loophole which bank

associations could exploit. (Montwedi.T,2012)

Global hunger is the world's most serious unsolved problem." The proportion of undernourished

people in the world has declined from 15 percent in 2000-2004 to 8.9 percent in 2019. About 690

million people globally are undernourished" (Ma, 2022). So, how can we put a stop to world

hunger? The only reason is to raise funds via fundraising. Where do we put our money? It is

incredibly simple to donate money through social media. Social media has been a core

component of some high-profile work around hunger and nutrition in recent years.

According to Shaik. C (n.d). Here are some well-known social media fundraising campaigns -

 "World Food Programme

 Heifer International

 Action Against Hunger

 The Hunger Project

 Rise Against Hunger

 World Central Kitchen

 Feeding America

 Mercy Corps

 Bread for the World"

Almost the entire campaign is funded through social media. There is no doubt about the impact

of social media on world hunger. Social media is seen as an important source of health

information, particularly during outbreaks. During the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)

pandemic, social media was critical for information dissemination. The COVID-19 pandemic has

influenced social media usage by the general public, celebrities, and world leaders together.

Social networking sites have been utilized to spread information as well as to find entertainment

and distract from the pandemic through Memes. However, social isolation has led many people

to adjust their lifestyles, putting a strain on their mental health. Many online counseling services

that use social media were created because they could safely connect mental health experts with

those in need.

In conclusion, Social media activism can be pretty effective. It can even affect the world in ways

that would have been nearly impossible to achieve without it. Although social media has a

negative impact, social media can benefit people in a variety of ways. Social media can aid in the

defense of human rights, serve as the main business and banking platform, and become a useful

tool for raising money to fight world hunger and entertainment during Covid -19 pandemic. The

use of social media is transforming the world into a better place.
