IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Review the past lesson about the Levels of Communication process,
presenting new lesson
B. Establishing a purpose of the In Mass Media as we have discussed the word mass means large and
lesson (MOTIVATION) there would be a large audience in this form of communication,
considering this broad audience, it gives us different Roles, Functions
and Specialization to be able to cater to such a large Audience.

The Role of the Communicators and Journalists

1. to make available information and evidence to inform the


public about issues that matter to them in the most neutral
way possible.

2. provide facts for the public to form judgment and decisions.

3. facilitate accurate processing and analysis of such facts in a


professional and ethical way.

The Functions of Communicators and Journalists

In the way of their role, their functions follow naturally:

1. To collect and document information, facts and opinions and


present them for public analysis and deepening to the root of reality.

2. To communicate is to deliver truth and facts.

3. Their functions include being present where the news is happening


and having the ability to record what is happening accurately with
available technology.

Areas of Specialization in Communication


The following are areas of specialization for communicators and
journalists:
1. speech writing and taking minutes of a meeting
2. advertising, marketing, and sales
3. communication education
4. electronic media, radio-television, and broadcasting
5. public relations
6. journalism
7. theater, performing arts and dramatic arts

The field of communication is wide and almost every aspect
of business and human organization has communication
specialists or roles. Professionals pursuing careers in
communication have many options.

Here are some career opportunities for communicators:

1. In journalism, reporter, editor, newscaster, author, copy


writer, script writer, publisher, news service researcher,
technical writer, acquisition editor and interviewer.

2. In public relations, publicity manager, advertising manager,


marketing specialist, press agent, lobbyist , corporate public
affairs specialist, account executives, development officers,
fund-raiser, membership recruiter, sales manager, media
analyst, creative director, audience analyst, news writer and
public opinion researcher.

3. In theater and performing arts, performing artists, script


writers, producers, director, arts administrator, performing
arts educator, costume designer, theater critic, makeup
artist, stage manager, art and prop curator, model, theater
professor, casting director.

4. In communication-government and politics-related, public


information officer, speech writer, legislative assistant,
campaign director, research specialist, program coordinator,
negotiator, lobbyist, press secretary and elected officer.

5. In international relations and negotiations, on-air


international broadcasting talent, corporate representative,
translator, student tour coordinator, diplomat, foreign
relations officer, host/hostess for foreign dignitaries and
foreign correspondent.

DAY IN A LIFE OF A COMMUNICATOR

1. Observe a specific Personality in communication.

2. Once you have selected a Personality to write about, begin


researching and observing.. Adequately document and
critique their roles, functions, and Competencies. Make sure
to find reliable sources and gather information about your
topic

3. After you have done your research, create an outline for your
story. Include the main points you want to cover and the
order in which you want to cover them.

4. Now that you have your outline, you can begin writing your
script. Make sure to keep your broadcast writing style in mind
and keep your sentences short and to the point.

5. Once you have finalized your script, you can record the
Video. Make sure to practice your delivery and read the script
aloud to make sure it sounds natural.

6. After recording your script, it is time to make any final


tweaks. Make sure the recording sounds good and that the
content is up to broadcast quality.
