SM U118

The SM U118 was a word war one german submarine. Her made by AG Vulcan
Stettin and entered the service on May 8, 1918. Her first trophy was a british steamer the
Wellington, she sunkt the steamer in 16. September. In 2. Oktober her get she’s second and
last trophy, it was a british tanker the Arca. The SM U118 surrendered tot he Allies in
Harwich on February 23, 1919. The submarine should hve been transported to France in the
company of SM UB II. -U212, but when she left Harwich to go Brest on April 15, 1919, a
storm broke out. The SM U118 tore the tow rope nad sunkt in Hastings, front of the Queens
Hotel.
First they try to stop the water infloat, but they can’t stop it, The they try to move the
submarine whit 3 tractor, but the can’t move she. The last attempt was for a French destroyer
tried to smash her, but unsuccessfully. After the attemps the Royal Navy, tried to blow up the
submarine, but the Queens Hotel and the peoples sabotaged.
The sunkd submarine was a big attraction. The city used her as a museum, and the
„museum” was open only two week long. The city get 300 pound (now it’s 17160 pound). It
was used to receive the returning soldiers.
