Meet the team

This week, we meet two important

members of the Year 6 Leadership Team,
our House Captains.

Diana: House Captain for Hood

Q: Tell me a little about yourself?

A: In my spare time I enjoy gaming and coding. I also
crochet plushies and creatures, I find this a relaxing
hobby and it lets me unwind. Rocky, my dog is full of
energy and is always on the go. I like to play with him
and I also train him to do tricks (he doesn’t always
listen to me).

Q: What do you do as a House Captain?

A: I support my house in any way I can. Our team is amazing, and we are full of hard
working and fun children.

Q: If your pet could talk, what would he say about you?

A: He would say that I’m interested in the world around me and that I am a kind and
caring person.

Q: What is your favourite subject?

A: Music! I get to express myself, perform on stage and I feel free when I sing.
Music makes me feel great.

Q: Can you describe our school in one word?

A: Unique. Bronte is a remarkable and unique school. All the pupils here are different
and we each bring something special with us when we come to school each day.

Make sure you follow us on Instagram

for more photos and videos….

Orla: House Captain for Nelson

Q: Tell me a little about yourself?

A: During the holidays, I love spending time in America with my family. At home,
we keep chickens. They are more than pets; they are part of the family. I collect
the eggs, feed them and keep them safe and happy. I also run for a club in
Dartford, I’m a keen long-distance runner and I train hard for races.

Q: What do you do as a House Captain?

A: Nelson is such a great house; I do everything I can to make sure my house does
the best that it can. Do you like our House Mascot? Maybe we should interview
them at a later date?

Q: If your chickens could talk, what would they say about you?
A: They would say that I’m fun to be around and always on the go. They would also
say that I provide them with ‘eggcellent’ care.

Q: What is your favourite subject?

A: This is a tough question; I like all of my subjects. I think it would be Maths. I
love to use my logical thinking skills and enjoy discovering different ways of doing
things. I like to work collaboratively with my friends to complete tasks.

Q: Can you describe our school in one word?

A: I would describe Bronte as a warm place. My school is super and the staff make
sure that I feel safe, secure and happy. I have an amazing group of friends at
school, and we really feel like this is a fantastic place.

A special visitor

This week, we were delighted to welcome Mr. Howe in for a special assembly to
talk about his life and share his experiences with us. Mr. Howe grew up and
attended school in the local area after living for a number of years in Trinidad.
After university, he attended the Royal Naval College in Devon so that he could
become part of the Royal Navy. We were shown pictures from his time in the Royal
Navy, where he jumped out of helicopters, dived to over sixty metres and
travelled the world. Unbelievably, Mr Howe met Queen Elizabeth II not once but
twice! Then, we got to see some of the special items from his life, including a
special ceremonial sword and some extraordinary medals he received for some of
the many noteworthy moments in his career.

Mr. Howe said that life in the Royal Navy taught him a really important lesson that
he wished to share with us. He said, “You can achieve whatever you want to in life
no matter where you come from or what colour you are.” Bronte School would like
to thank Mr. Howe for sharing such a vital message and for telling us about his
remarkable life.

Diary Work

Year 4 have been writing diary

entries as crew members onboard
Shackleton’s ship, The Endurance.
Mrs. Singh is looking for fronted
adverbials, emotive language and
chronological order…

Do you know what other features of

a diary Year 4 will need to include?

Craft Club

This week Craft Club made some

wonderful Christmas decorations
on salt dough.

Mrs. Mason was so impressed

with their creative flair, colour
choice and their eye for detail.

Sorting it out

In Computing, Year 1 started their new

topic for this term ‘Sorting’.

After a discussion about the idea of

sorting and why it is such an important
concept in everyday life the children
had to digitally sort a number of
objects to varying criteria. Then the
children created their own quizzes and
their own criteria for their peers to
try and unpick; they used pictures,
drawings and images in various ways.

In one of the photos, you can see the

quiz that Param planned, designed and
then presented to the class.

Dressing up

Kindergarten celebrated national nursery rhyme week and dressed up

as their favourite characters and explored lots of songs.

Year 5 investigates

This week in Science, Year 5 learned about air resistance. Did you know
that as you move you create air resistance? When you run or ride your
bike, it is air resistance that pushes you back and makes your clothes
ripple. The faster you move, the more air resistance you feel.

The shape of an object affects its air resistance. For example,

aeroplanes are streamlined which means that they create less air
resistance and can move easily through the air.

Year 5 explored this idea by creating their own paper aeroplanes … take a
look!

‘Allsorts’ of sweets

Using their prior knowledge of

hierarchical classification systems
Year 6 were tasked with organising a
mixed bag of sweets. In pairs the
children started discussing the
observable features they could use to
classify each item. After this, the
children needed to choose questions
with clear yes and no answers and to
build a system that would be ready for
any new variations added. Following on
from this, Year 6 then spent time peer
reviewing each other’s systems and
sharing ideas as a class.

This art work is frame-tastic

Reception created these abstract masterpieces in art today inspired by

Kandinsky. They used a variety of resources to create different black
marks and lines on a bright, colourful background.

The sound of music

This week Year 5 and 6 were invited to

sing carols at The Woodville Halls for the
Gravesham 50+ Forum.
What is this? Gravesham 50+ Forum was
founded some seventeen years ago, and its
members comprise of residents living in
the Gravesham Borough of 50 years of age
and over. The aim is to help combat
loneliness and isolation amongst this age
group.
Year 5 and 6 sang beautifully, they even
had the whole audience singing along and
certainly brought a smile and festive
cheer to all. Thank you to Mr. Luckhurst
for his brilliant piano accompaniment.

Bringing learning to life in Reception

Prompted by our story this week ‘This

is the Bear’ and recent interest we
decided to make robots in class. Lots
of cutting, measuring, assembling and
decorating took place in order to
make robots of all shapes and sizes.

We also explored moving and dancing

like robots before finally ‘dancing on
paper’ to create our own wonderful
designs.

Celebration Assembly

Saavi in Year 6 has been awarded with the Play Leader of the month
certificate. Mrs. Salter noted that Saavi interacts so well with the younger
children, and she creates wonderful imaginative games for them to play. James
in Year 3 has been bestowed with the Lunchtime Superstar award for being
kind and considerate to his peers. James was also mentioned for his friendly
and polite manner.

Chloe in Year 3, should be very proud of her recent accomplishments in the pool
and for receiving a certificate from the Royal Schools of Music recognising her
excellent and engaging piano playing. Yuvraj showed us a wonderful medal that
he was given for winning a recent bout in jiu jitsu. Mrs. Singh awarded Ellie in
Year 4 her Pen Licence in recognition of her neat presentation and wonderful
handwriting.

Well done to Hood for getting the most house points this week. Keep up the
