Education is a center of improving its quality and relevance to meet the requirements of
industrialization and globalization. Youth development starting form barangay level shall be
given top priority.
Calasumanga is a barangay in Panukulan which is located in Polillo
Island. Most of the people there especially the parents would like to send their children in
school despite of the distance, lack of transportation, sacrifices, different challenges and
poverty. They have no doubt of sending their children to gain knowledge and education for the
upliftment of the quality of life in their families, barangays and town in general. This fact led
them to dream of having their own school. They have found ways on how to attain their
aspirations. Through making an organization "Tulong-tulong sa Kaunlaran" headed by Mr.
Felicisimo Tena, they had fund raising. Miss Rowena Montoya and her escort Mr. Rey O
Atentar had solicited and amount with the help of their parents but it was not enough to start
their own building.
Time passed by, their dream is still a dream. Moreover, they have pursued their dream to have
a school. In 1994, the elected captain of the barangay, Mr Romeo Baris continued the plan of
the former Captain Majadas to open a Barangay High School. Anchored by the support and
concerned efforts of Municipal Mayor Ronnie T. Mitra, the school was put into effective
operation.
It was July 7, 1999, the first day of classes started. They borrowed one vacant room in
elementary. The school began with first year class through the pioneer teacher Miss Gregoria
B. Tumbado. She is willing to share her time, talent and treasure to mold the young minds to
become better citizens of our nation.
After one year of operation, on July 14, 2000, the Regional Director Dr. Belen Magsino has
informed that the school will be an extension school of San Juan National High School. With
these blessing, all parents gave their full support and cooperation. There were an increasing
number of students; the school hires other teachers Mr. Ronald Basanta and Mrs.
Maria Theresa M. Aman.
On July 23, 2003, the extension school began to stand on their own through the courtesy of
Mr. Gerardo Salgo Sr. who donated a 5,000 square meters of lot to build a school building. The
school has a conducive place for learning.
At last, with the help of Dr. Belen Magsino, the school was given three items form National.
Luckily, Ms Alma America, Ms Ladel L. Solleza and Mrs. Rosalie A. Salgo are joining their
hands together with two locally funded teachers and a newly hire teacher Miss Rafaela O.
Atentar headed by Mrs. Estelita S. Mitra their principal to promote quality education for the
continuous development of the school.
