History of International Football
(F.I.F.A)

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the

international governing body of association football, beach soccer, and futsal. It
was founded in Paris on 21 May 1904, to oversee international competition
among the national associations of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the
Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Headquartered in Zürich,
Switzerland, its membership now comprises 211 national associations. These
national associations must each also be members of one of the six regional
confederations into which the world is divided: CAF (Africa), AFC (Asia and
Australia), UEFA (Europe), CONCACAF (North & Central America and the
Caribbean), OFC (Oceania) and CONMEBOL (South America).
The first president of FIFA was Robert Guérin. Guérin was replaced in 1906 by
Daniel Burley Woolfall from England, by then a member of the association. The
first tournament FIFA staged, the association football competition for the 1908
Olympics in London was more successful than its Olympic predecessors,
despite the presence of professional footballers, contrary to the founding
principles of FIFA.

Membership of FIFA expanded beyond Europe with the application of South

Africa in 1909, Argentina in 1912, Canada and Chile in 1913, and the United
States in 1914.

During World War I, with many players sent off to war and the possibility of
travel for international fixtures severely limited, the organization's survival was
in doubt. Post-war, following the death of Woolfall, the organization was run by
Dutchman Carl Hirschmann. It was saved from extinction but at the cost of the
withdrawal of the Home Nations (of the United Kingdom), who cited an
unwillingness to participate in international competitions with their World War
enemies. The Home Nations later resumed their membership.

6
FIFA outlines several objectives in the organizational Statutes, including
growing association football internationally, providing efforts to ensure it is
accessible to everyone, and advocating for integrity and fair play. It is
responsible for the organization and promotion of association football's major
international tournaments, notably the World Cup which commenced in 1930,
and the Women's World Cup which commenced in 1991. Although FIFA does
not solely set the laws of the game, that being the responsibility of the
International Football Association Board of which FIFA is a member, it applies
and enforces the rules across all FIFA competitions. All FIFA tournaments
generate revenue from sponsorships; in 2022, FIFA had revenues of over US
$5.8 billion, ending the 2019–2022 cycle with a net positive of US$1.2 billion,
and had cash reserves of over US$3.9 billion.

7
History of Regional Football
The Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association
Football (Concacaf) is one of FIFA's six continental governing bodies for
association football. Its 41 member associations represent countries and
territories mainly in North America, including the Caribbean and Central
America, and, for geopolitical reasons, three nations from the Guianas
subregion of South America—Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. The
CONCACAF's primary functions are to organize competitions for national
teams and clubs, and to conduct the World Cup and Women's World Cup
qualifying tournaments.

The CONCACAF was founded in its current form on 18 September 1961 in

Mexico City, Mexico, with the merger of the NAFC and the CCCF, which made
it one of the then five, now six, continental confederations affiliated with FIFA.
Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico,
Netherlands Antilles (Curaçao, Aruba), Nicaragua, Panama, Suriname, and the
United States were founding members.

The CONCACAF is the third-most successful FIFA confederation in the men's

game. Mexico dominated CONCACAF men's competition early on and has won
the most Gold Cups since the beginning of the tournament in its current format.
The Mexico national football team is the only men's CONCACAF team to win
an official FIFA tournament by winning the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Mexico and the U.S. have won all but one of the editions of the CONCACAF
Gold Cup. In recent years Costa Rica and Panama have become powers in the
region; in 2014, Costa Rica became the 4th CONCACAF country after the
United States, Cuba, and Mexico to make the World Cup quarterfinals, while
Panama became the eleventh country from the confederation to participate in
the World Cup in 2018.

The United States has been the most successful team in the world in the
women's game, being the only CONCACAF member to win all three major
worldwide competitions in women's football—the World Cup (4), the Olympics
(4), and the Algarve Cup (10). Canada is the only other member to win at least

8
two of the major competitions, winning the 2016 Algarve Cup and the 2020
Olympics.

The CONCACAF is led by a general secretary, executive committee, congress,

and several standing committees. The executive committee is composed of eight
members — one president, three vice-presidents, three members, and one
female member. Each of the three geographic zones in CONCACAF is
represented by one vice-president and one member. The executive committee
carries out the various statutes, regulations, and resolutions.

The first leader of CONCACAF was Costa Rican Ramón Coll Jaumet; he had
overseen the merger between the North American Football Confederation
(NAFC) and the Confederación Centroamericana y del Caribe de Fútbol
(CCCF). In 1969, he was succeeded in the role by Mexican Joaquín Soria
Terrazas, who served as president for 21 years.

His successor Jack Warner was the CONCACAF president from 1990 to 2011,
also for 21 years. Warner was suspended as president on 30 May 2011 due to his
temporary suspension from football-related activity by FIFA following
corruption allegations. Chuck Blazer was the general secretary during the same
period.

On 20 June 2011, Jack Warner resigned from the presidency of CONCACAF,

and removed himself from all participation in football, in the wake of the
corruption investigation resulting from 10 May 2011 meeting of the Caribbean
Football Union. The vice-president of CONCACAF, Alfredo Hawit, acted as
president until May 2012.

In May 2012, Cayman Islands banker Jeffrey Webb was installed as president of
CONCACAF. On 27 May 2015, Webb was arrested in Zurich, Switzerland on
corruption charges in the U.S.

Victor Montagliani, leader of the Canadian Soccer Association, was elected as

president of CONCACAF in May 2016.

History of Local Football
(T.T.F.A)

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association was formed on July 23rd, 1908.
In the years following the establishment of the TTFA, local infrastructure
limitations hindered the growth and development of the game throughout the
islands. The poor road network meant that football was restricted to the major
urban areas in the north and south of Trinidad. Expatriate workers who taught
the game to locals played the game in the oilfields. There was no national team
until after Independence in 1962, the TTFA was affiliated with FIFA and its
confederate member, Concacaf.
Football was introduced to Trinidad in 1927 by Scottish Born Thomas Boyd
who came to Trinidad as a manager. At that time cricket was the most popular
sport among the British expatriates, and Boyd discovered that there were no
footballs in Trinidad. Boyd was unsure whether or not he could even get enough
people to form a football team, nevertheless he wrote to his relatives in Scotland
and asked them to send him a football, two bladders and an inflator. When the
equipment arrived, Boyd was able to get enough people interested to form two
teams. Eventually a football club was formed. Later more clubs representing the
different strata in society, were formed.

Since its inception in 1927 football has grown in popularity and is played
throughout the country. Unlike its early beginnings, the sport now cuts across
social and ethnic differences and is just as popular as cricket. Every stratum in
society is involved in football. There are many football clubs and leagues for
different age groups. Today, Trinidad and Tobago’s national team stands
shoulder to shoulder with other football teams around the world. The team
qualified to compete in the World Cup 2006.

Reflection

Working with Group Members

-Honestly, I do not particularly like to work in groups, but I always give my full
cooperation whenever I must work with others. In our group, most of the
members cooperated while quite a few did not.
Aside from doing first aid, I also decided to help out in some team managing and
journaling during the tournament. I did this because some members were absent
on some days/games.
However, considering the number of people who genuinely helped, the
tournament was a success. It ran rather smoothly except for a few minor issues.

Personal Reflection
-It was really a great experience to work on this S.B.A. it took me a while to
gather all the necessary information, and guidelines to write up this S.B.A. It also
took me a while to get the appropriate pictures to include in the S.B.A.
This S.B.A. was somewhat fun because we, the members of the group got the
experience of hosting a sports tournament. I really enjoyed doing this S.B.A
because we were allowed to express our opinions which I liked.
A few recommendations would be better organizational skills at the management
level, more consistency among the group members even though they may not
totally agree with each other. Also, if you the tournament to run perfectly without
any glitches, all the group members must do what he/she was assigned to do.
