QUIZZER #1: PREPOSITIONS

Directions: Identify the appropriate preposition in each of the following sentences.

1. Mia has been in bed ______ morning.

A. until
B. since
C. in
D. before

Correct Answer: B

Rationale: 'Since' is the correct preposition because it implies that the action started in the
morning and continues during the time of saying.

2. Rolette will enroll in an art class ______ summer.

A. on
B. in
C. at
D. before
Correct Answer: A

Rationale: 'ON' is a preposition of time used in the sentence to refer to a specific period in a year
which is summer.

3. We need to pass ______ that tunnel to get there on time.

A. between
B. by
C. through
D. inside
Correct Answer: C
Rationale: ‘THROUGH’ is used to refer to the direction of a thing. In this sentence, passing
through the tunnel means moving across it to reach a destination on time.

4. I got married in the summer ______ 2000.

A. of
B. at
C. on
D. in
Correct Answer: A

Rationale: ‘OF’ is the correct preposition that connects and completes the thought of the
sentence. ‘AT’ is used for a specific time; hence, at 2000 would be improper. ‘ON’ is used for
days and dates but not for years like 2000. ‘IN’ is used to designate 'years' but, the phrase 'in the
summer in 2000' does not make sense.

5. Kit prefers to be staying ______ the corner of the classroom.

A. on
B. in
C. at
D. by
Correct Answer: C

Rationale: 'AT' is the only preposition of place that signifies a very specific point or location, 'the
corner of the classroom.'

6. We immediately ran ______ the house when it began to rain.

A. inside
B. through
C. over
D. on
Correct Answer: A
Rationale: INSIDE is a preposition that implies that a thing is enclosed. The rain caused the
speaker to run and move inside the house based on context. 'On the house, Through the house or
Over the house' are phrases that will only give the sentence a different meaning.

7. I borrowed a book ______ the library.

A. from
B. of
C. to
D. for

Correct Answer: A
Rationale: “FROM” is the correct preposition that shows the source of something. The sentence
implies that the book comes from the library.
8. Rizal's Park is located ______ Manila.

C. in
D. from

Correct Answer: In

'Manila'.

9. We should arrive ______ their place ______ lunchtime.

A. on, before
B. in, by
C. at, since
D. at, before

Rationale: “AT” is a preposition of place which refers to the specific point of ‘their places’ while
the appropriate preposition of time that gives sense to the noun ‘lunch time’ is BEFORE.

10. Pope Francis visited the Philippines ______ 2015.

A. on
B. in
C. at
