Art. 1 Public Selection

1. The University of Trento in cooperation with the University of Innsbruck, announces a public
competition for the admission to the MSc Programme in Environmental Meteorology for the academic
year 2022/2023.

2. Candidates will be selected on the basis of the admission requisites indicated in the present call.

3. Admission is limited to a maximum of 30 positions, up to 5 of which will be reserved to non-EU


candidates living outside Italy. In case the positions reserved to non-EU candidates living abroad are not
covered, vacant positions will be made available for Italian, EU citizen and non-EU citizens regularly
living in Italy.
4. The official language of the MSc programme is English.

Art. 2 Admission Requirements

1. Applications are accepted to the selection process from:

a) citizens of non-EU countries living outside Italy;


b) citizens of the EU countries
c) non-EU citizens already living in Italy

who satisfy the following curricular and linguistic requirements:

i. hold a bachelor’s or higher degree awarded in Italy;

ii. hold a bachelor’s or higher degree awarded abroad1 and recognised as equivalent to an
Italian degree; eligibility of the academic title will be evaluated by the selection committee
established as per art. 4 of the present call;

iii. have passed exams in the academic disciplines as indicated in the Table below, if holding a
Bachelor degree from an Italian University:

For holders of a qualification awarded prior to the introduction of ECTS or other qualification
obtained abroad recognised as equivalent, the verification of the curricular requirements is carried
out by the selection committee, considering the appropriate equivalences between the contents of
the courses taken and those corresponding to the academic disciplines mentioned above.

iv. have good knowledge of the English language, at least at the B2 level of the Common European
Framework of Reference for Languages, that can be proven as follows:
• upload a certificate responding to the criteria indicated by the University’s Language Centre
(CLA) and listed on the following page of recognized certificates. The selection committee may
also consider certificates not responding to these criteria and evaluate their eligibility; OR

• upload an official statement from the home university stating that the Bachelor or Master degree
was taught entirely in English; OR
• declare in the online application that you are a citizen of a country in which the official language
is English; OR

• have passed a language examination at least at B2 level during the previous university career,
provided all four abilities (reading, writing, speaking and listening) have been tested; OR

v. candidates who do not hold the degree at the time of application may apply provided they obtain
their bachelor’s degree:
- within 30 June 2022 in case of non-EU citizens living abroad (first Call);

- within 31 October 2022 in case of EU-citizens or non-EU citizens living in Italy (second
Call);

vi. EU-citizens or non-EU citizens living in Italy who do not have the language certification and/or
some of the curricular requirements (i.e. credits in specific areas) within the deadline for
application, are still eligible to apply. Should they result eligible for admission to the master’s
degree in Environmental Meteorology, they will be conditionally admitted and will have to meet any
missing requirements no later than 31 October 2022. Candidates who do not meet such
requirements within the deadline shall not be admitted to the Master programme.

Art. 3 Application procedures and submission dates

1. Candidates seeking admission to the selection process must complete the online application form at
the Application webpage.
It will be possible to log into the application system as follows:

- through identification via SPID

- - with an electronic ID (CIE)

- through a username “@unitn.it”

- through a temporary username “@guest.unitn.it” that can be created inserting personal details and
an email address in the online system.

2. Submission of applications is divided into two sessions, according to the following timeframes:
a. between 15 December 2021 and 4 March 2022 at 12.00 noon (UTC+1) for non-EU citizens
living abroad, EU-citizens and non-EU citizens living in Italy;
b. between 11 April 2022 and 30 June 2022 at 12.00 noon (UTC+2) only for EU-citizens and
non-EU citizens living in Italy.
3. Failing to comply with the deadlines and/or online submission procedures will result in the exclusion
of the candidate from the competition. In case of technical problems related to the online application,
candidates must immediately send an email to [email protected] before the deadline for
application.

4. To complete the online application correctly, candidates must upload the following documents:
i. A copy of a valid passport (photo and personal data only) or ID card (the latter for EU candidates
only2);

ii. A copy of a degree certificate3 if applicable (an official translation of the degree certificate is
required when the original document is not produced in English);

iii. Academic Transcript4 indicating credits and marks achieved in each subject and GPA. If the
degree was obtained in Italy it must also include the Academic Disciplines (Settori Scientifico
Disciplinari – SSD). Information on the grading scale must be also provided if the degree was
obtained outside Italy. Applications without this grading scale will not be considered (an official
translation of the transcript of records is required when the original document is not produced in
English);

iv. Statement of purpose in English (maximum 3000 characters, spaces included);

v. English Language proficiency certifications1 as indicated at art. 2.1 of this call.

5. Applicants are required to pay an application fee of €15,00 using one of the methods requested
during the online application process within the given deadline for applications (March 4th 2022 for
the first call, June 30th 2022 for the second call). Failing to pay the application fee within the given
deadline will automatically lead to the exclusion of the applicant.

Art. 4 Selection and Ranking list

1. The Selection Committee is appointed by the Rector and will be composed of at least three members
chosen among the Professors of the University of Trento and the University of Innsbruck. Each
university will contribute at least one of the members. The Selection Committee meetings can be held
remotely by electronic means.

2. The Selection Committee will evaluate the eligible applications based on the assessment of
qualifications listed in article 2 of this call.

3. Candidates are awarded a total score out of 100 as follows:

Evaluation criteria Score

Curriculum studiorum 0-55

Evaluation of the previous academic education (i.e. Grade Point Average and class
qualification, educational background, language certifications proving a higher-level
than the minimum required for admission), extra-academic experiences if any,
coherence with the MSc learning objectives.

Statement of purpose 0-5


Description of the personal goals and expectations with regards to the master’s
learning objectives (max 3000 characters, spaces included)

Interview 0-40

Candidates will be invited to an interview with the selection Committee. The interview
may take place by remote connection.

The interview aims at ascertaining the personal skills and background of the student
with respect to the MSc learning objectives.

Total score 0-100

4. The time and date of the interview will be notified with at least 3 days’ notice on the page Selection
process

5. Only Candidates scoring at least 50 points will be declared eligible for the programme and ranked
accordingly.

6. In case of candidates having the same score, priority will be given to the youngest applicant.

7. At the end of the evaluation process, two separate shortlists of the selected applicants will be published
on the page Selection process

Art. 5 Admission and enrolment

1. Selected applicants must pay an enrolment confirmation fee of € 100.00 (one hundred euro) within the
date that will be notified by email to confirm their acceptance of the place. Reimbursement for this
payment is not allowed under any circumstances.
2. Successful candidates who fail to comply with the requirements listed above will be considered as
having renounced their position and will lose their position in the ranking list. Candidates who do not
intend to accept the position are required to notify their decision as soon as possible by sending an e-
mail to [email protected].

3. Should any positions become available, either as a result of failure to enroll by successful
candidates or for any other reason, the Committee reserves the right to invite other eligible
candidates from the ranking list to enroll in the first year of the Master’s degree course in
Environmental Meteorology, up to the number of places available

4. Enrolment deadlines and procedures will be notified after the ranking list publication.
5. Non-EU citizens living abroad who apply and pay the Enrollment confirmation fee must pre-enroll at
the Italian diplomatic representative in their own country. The pre-enrolment must be submitted by
the deadline indicated in the "Italian Government regulations for the enrollment of Visa requesting
students" document5. Pre-enrolment is compulsory in order to obtain the Visa. All candidates are
advised to read the procedures that must be followed at the webpage Non-Eu citizens living outside

6. Admitted candidates have to enroll within 31 October 2022 (unless an extension is approved by
both universities). Students, who will not complete the enrollment within the given deadline, will be
considered as withdrawals

Art. 6 Tuition fees non-EU citizens living abroad

1. The maximum tuition fees for non-EU citizens living abroad is €6.000 per academic year. Further
details are available at the webpage Tuition fees.

2. The amount of tuition fees for admitted students can be reduced on the basis of the application score
as follows:

3. Top scored NON-EU candidates living abroad will be entitled to receive a scholarship from the
University of Trento provided that they get a score of at least 70/100 according to scholarships
availability. Students who benefit from the scholarship are waived from tuition fees.
Students who turn out to be in the "fee waiver" bracket are not necessarily entitled to receive a
scholarship from the University of Trento. The scholarship is intended as a partial contribution to
mobility expenses and will be paid only after arrival in Italy

Art. 7 Tuition Fees for EU-citizens and non-EU citizens currently living in Italy

1. The amount of tuition fees for admitted students is available at the webpage Tuition fees. The amount
can be partially or totally reduced according to the economic situation of the student’s family (ISEE).

Art. 8 Admission to the second year

1. Candidates who, after passing the present selection are admitted to the first year, may request to be
enrolled directly to the second year. They may do so provided they have obtained at least 21 credits
for courses of the first year of the MSc in Environmental Meteorology or for courses taken in previous
careers and recognised as equivalent to those of the said Master Programme.

2. Candidates seeking admission to the second year should fill in the form “Academic Credit Transfer
Evaluation Application” and send it via email to [email protected] no later than 09.09.2022. The
outcome of the evaluation will be notified within 14 days from the application.

3. Number of places available for admission to the second year: 19 (nineteen). This number may be
increased in case more places become available and within the limits of the maximum number of
students that can be admitted.

Note 1 – Information on the processing of personal data

Regulation (EU) 2016/679, the “General Data Protection Regulation” (hereinafter “GDPR”), provides that
everyone has the right to the protection of personal data concerning him or her.
In compliance with Article 13 of the EU Regulation 2016/679, the University of Trento provides the present
notice to persons who want to participate in this selection procedure (hereinafter “data subjects”).

3. Purpose of the processing and legal basis

The Data Controllers shall process personal and particular data exclusively for the management of this
selection procedure, as part of the performance of its public interest tasks as well as for the fulfilment of
legal obligations (article 6(1), points e) and c) of the GDPR).

4. Acquisition of data

The provision of personal data for the purposes indicated above is mandatory to participate in the selection
procedure; failure to provide it will make it impossible to participate. The provision of particular data is
optional and failure to provide it will make it impossible for the University to guarantee the use of the
facilities requested.

5. Data processing methods

The processing of personal data shall be carried out manually and by automated means by authorised
staff, according to their tasks. Personal data shall be processed lawfully, fairly and transparently,
confidentially, in a manner that is adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the
purposes for which they are processed (GDPR, article 5(1)).
No profiling is carried out, and decision are not taken by automated means.

6. Recipients of personal data

Personal data will be disclosed to the Data Controllers personnel acting for the above-mentioned purposes.
In any case, personal data must be disclosed in compliance with legal obligation and/or a provision of the
judicial Authorities.
Personal data may be published on the University website in fulfilment of the obligations of publicity and
transparency provided for by current legislation.

7. Data retention period

Personal data will be stored as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which they were collected, and
in any case as long as it is necessary by law. In any case, the data will be stored as long as necessary by
the regulations in force and/or by University regulations on the storage of administrative documents
relevant to the performance of its services.

8. Rights of the data subjects

At any time the data subject can exercise the rights referred to in article 15 et seq. of the GDPR towards
the Data Controller, at the contact details indicated above, and in particular: the access to his/her own
personal data and to other information as mentioned in art. 15 of GDPR; the request of rectification of
his/her own personal data when inaccurate and/or their integration when incomplete; the erasure of his/her
own personal data, except when the University is obliged to data storage to comply with article 17 (3) of the
GDPR; the restriction of processing as per article 18 of the GDPR; the object to processing of personal
data concerning him or her when allowed as per art.21 GDPR.
This is without prejudice to the right to lodge a complaint with the Supervisory Authority pursuant to Art. 77
of the GDPR and/or to take the appropriate judicial offices.
