DRIVERS RESPONSIBILITY
The ambulance driver is responsible in case of ambulance or equipment breakdown during
transfer of patient , the responsible is to stay with the vehicle and ensure that the vehicle and patient
is secured or safe and follows all breakdown procedures.
The driver should call the driver/midwife to communicate the situation, provide exact location ,
assessment of the situation , status of the patient, and record the time of the incident until backup
service arrive.
For equipment breakdown , identify the equipment and immediately report to the head of office and
the back up driver to bring a spare for equipment replacement. If replacement is not available and
vehicle is not operable , call the nearest facility with ambulance transport to request for assistance in
patient transportation.
SAFETY PROCEDURES
In the event of disabled ambulance stopped on the travelled portion or shoulder of a
roadway , and the ambulance driver should:
1. Immediately turn on vehicle hazard warning signals .
2. Set up early warning device.
3. Call for back up immediately.
4. Upon return to the RHU fill out repair request form and report to the Head of Office.
