Activity 5. Listen and repeat (4/ P52)
- Play the recording and ask Ss to listen and repeat the sentences, paying attention
to whether the words in red in each sentences are stressed or not.
- T may play the recording as many times as necessary.
- Read through and explain the rule in the REMEMBER!box and ask some Ss to
give examples of the cases where the short words (a, of, the, etc.) are used in the
strong form.
REMEMBER!
- Short words like articles (a, an, the), conjunctions (and, or), and prepositions (at,
of, to) are usually unstressed or in the weak form. However, we use these short
words in the strong form in the following cases:
+ When the short words are used at the end of the sentence.
+ When the short words are used for emphasis and contrast
+ When the short words are used for citation.

We use the impersonal passive to express other people’s opinions. It can be used
with reporting verbs, including say, think, believe, know, hope, expect, report,
understand, claim, etc

more partners.
- Ask some Ss to say their sentences aloud. Give comments, and make any
correction if needed.

1. It is claimed that Po Nagar Cham Towers were built in the 8th century by the
Cham people in central Viet Nam.
2. It is said that the Cham people built Po Nagar Cham temple complex to honour
Yang Ino Po Nagar, mother of the kingdom.

wooden temple, which was burned by the Javanese in A.D. 774.
4. It is understood that the Po Nagar Kalan is the main tower, which is one of the
tallest Cham structures.

above the entrance to the main temple.

Rule:
We can also use suggest + V-ing/clause with should to report someone’s ideas
about what someone else should do, or what they should do themselves
Activity 5. Write answers to the following questions using suggest + V-ing/clause
with should and the prompts in brackets. Then practise them with your partner.

- Remind them that they do not have to write full sentences and they can use
abbreviations.
- Then ask Ss to share their notes with their partners.

Activity 4a. Use your notes in 3 to write a short article describing a wonder of Viet

- First, have Ss study the guidelines on how to write a passage describing a
place in the REMEMBER! box.
- Set up the writing activity. Ss should use their notes in 3 and the notes in
the REMEMBER! box to help them to structure their writing.

Phân biệt giữa USED TO, BE/GET USED TO, BE USED FOR
* Used to do something: Đã từng làm việc gì trong quá khứ mà nay không làm
nữa. Đây là mẫu câu chỉ sử dụng ở thời quá khứ.
Ex: I used to get up early in the morning when I was a student (But I don’t get up
early now).
* Be/ get used to N/ doing something: (trở nên/dần) quen với. Mẫu câu này có thể
sử dụng ở thời quá khứ, hiện tại hoặc tuơng lai. Trong cấu trúc này, “used” là 1
tính từ và “to” là 1 giới từ.
