DRIVING
QUESTION
With the help of this project, we wish to
analyse the difficulties faced by people
in their work places and the reasons for
their stress and depression during their
work.

OBJECTIVES
Have you ever felt that your present job is so tiring such that you have
made up your mind to quit your present job and doing something else.
We wanted to find out the actual reasons for which are people hating
their jobs. Does stress and depression are due a person’s heavy work load
or due to lack of satisfaction in their work? why do people want to find
an escape route from the reality ?This project will help us to answer such
questions and look at a plethora of details about the not satisfied society
in India and around the globe. The following are the goals of our project:
- To know the source of anxiety, hyper-tension, depression and stress
- To explore the origin of these issues
- To connect it with the prose ‘THE THIRD LEVEL’
- To know more about the difficulties faced by the ordinary person - To
investigate intellectuals and form a questionnaire pertaining to this
topic
- To discuss the solutions to this problem
- To showcase our views

More smiling, less worrying. More compassion, less judgment. More

blessed, less stressed. More love, less hate.”

INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS STRESS ?“
Stress can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional or
psychological strain. Stress is your body's response to anything that requires
attention or action.
Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or
thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. Stress is your body's
reaction to a challenge or demand.
In short bursts, stress can be positive, such as when it helps you avoid danger or
meet a deadline.
EFFECTS OF STRESS
Stress can play a part in problems such as headaches, high blood pressure, heart
problems, diabetes, skin conditions, asthma, arthritis, depression, and anxiety.

WHAT IS WORK RELATED STRESS?

According to Who, Work-related stress is the response people may
have when presented with work demands and pressures that are not
matched to their knowledge and abilities and which challenge their
ability to cope. Stress occurs in a wide range of work circumstances but
is often made worse when employees feel they have little support from
supervisors and colleagues, as well as little control over work processes .

Pressure at the workplace is unavoidable due to the demands of

the contemporary work environment

CONNECTION TO THE
LESSON
‘THE THIRD LEVEL’

 Charley the protagonist of the story ‘the third level’ being an

ordinary guy in the modern 20 th century is the face of our modern
society.

 Being a regular guy he undergoes all the sufferings and

troublesome of a 20 th century’s working person.
hgc

 Tired of present job, he decided to find an escape route from the

reality.

 For him the escape route happened to the third level of the grand
central station. Like him many working professionals and searching
for an escape route.

 He wanted to move a timeline in which there isn’t any anti-social

feelings such stress, depression, anxiety, hypertension etc…

 So when we dig into this issue we could see that it is due work
related problems and other miscellaneous issues.

 So does stress actually exist in our society ? and why do modern

men want to become like charley. All this are the driving notions of
this project.

INTERVIEWS

Mrs. Priya Chauhan, an English teacher at The Doon

School, Dehradun

Interviewer: Have you ever faced a language barrier?

PRC: Yeah, plenty of times, because I grew up in

different parts of India. I lived in Kashmir and then
I lived in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Mizoram. I
found that everywhere that I lived, I did not speak
the native language, so it didn’t bother me too
much as a child. But later, when I went to college, I
was in Sikkim and their state language is Nepali,
and everyone spoke Nepali.
Now you just felt cut out of the mainstream.

Mrs. Mercedes Alonso Garcia, a spanish teacher at

The Doon School, Dehradun Interviewer: Does
knowing many languages impact your value in
society?

MAG: I think that the fact of knowing a language is

very important, whatever language it is, because
you know our culture, and I think in the world we
live in today, knowing our culture is very important
because we are a multicultural world with
globalisation, people migrating here and there and
everything.
So, I think that the fact of knowing a language you
become or you go through the process of knowing

1
in a culture, and I think it’s the key factor to
understand each other. So, I think it’s very
important.
