By: Fely C. Allam and Matronillo M. Martin

Special education is a program that helps to cater students with special needs.
This program allows the students with special needs to learn and give them their rights
to education or learn without discrimination. The article entitled "Issues and
Challenges in Special Education: A Qualitative Analysis from Teacher's Perspective"
by Fely C. Allam and Matronillo M. Martin provides a comprehensive analysis of the
challenges faced by special education teachers. The authors conducted interviews
with several special education teachers in the City Division of Ilagan Isabela,
Philippines to gather their perspectives on the issues they encounter in their
profession.

One of the main issues highlighted in the article is the lack of resources and
support for special education programs. Teachers expressed their frustration with
limited funding, inadequate materials, and a lack of professional development
opportunities. This not only hinders their ability to provide quality education but also
affects their morale and job satisfaction. It also highlighted in the article is the lack of
resources and support for special education programs. Teachers reported that they
often had to work with limited materials and outdated technology, which hindered their
ability to provide quality education to students with special needs. Additionally, they
expressed frustration over the lack of training and professional development
opportunities available to them. Another major challenge identified was the inclusion
of students with special needs in mainstream classrooms. Teachers reported that
while inclusion is a positive step towards promoting inclusivity, it also presents
significant challenges as they have to cater to a wide range of learning abilities within
one classroom. To cater a wide range of students in one classroom the teacher needs
to choose an appropriate strategy and motivation that could fit for all and that is one

of the issues or challenges identify because a motivation is regarded as a way for

learners to strive and to learn more successfully.

Furthermore, the article also discusses other challenges or issues which is

identifying individual needs because in order for the teacher to choose the appropriate
strategy the teacher must know his/her student’s needs. Another is acceptance and
patience. One of the teachers said that sometimes they face parents who don’t accept
that their child have a learning difficulties, and sometimes they are embarrassed if the
teacher would give feedback about their child learning difficulties. Parents acceptance
is important, so as teacher the only thing they cand do is to have more patience and
accept. Another issues and challenges that the SPED teachers face is challenging but
fulfilling and respect the student’s right. The article also discusses the emotional toll
that teaching special education can have on teachers. They often face high levels of
stress due to dealing with challenging behaviors, managing individualized education
plans (IEPs), and advocating for their students' rights.

In conclusion, this article sheds light on some critical issues faced by special
education teachers. It emphasizes the need for increased resources, support, and
training for these educators who play a crucial role in ensuring equal educational
opportunities for students with special needs in order to improve their working
conditions. It serves as a valuable resource for educators, policymakers, and
stakeholders involved in special education to address these issues effectively.
