Cause and Effect (Sebab Akibat): Definisi, Fungsi, dan Contoh Kalimat
Pernah dengar istilah kayak gitu? Dalam bahasa Inggris, itu disebut dengan cause and effect.
Apa itu cause and effect? Mari belajar di artikel ini!
Kamu pernah dengar teori sebab akibat nggak?
Sekarang, mari kita mengenal bagaimana cause and effect (sebab akibat) dalam bahasa Inggris,
yuk!
Cause adalah motif, dorongan, atau tindakan yang menghasilkan sebuah reaksi. Cause
merupakan sebab yang akan menimbulkan sebuah akibat. Sementara itu, effect adalah kondisi,
kejadian, atau result dari satu/beberapa penyebab. Contoh cause and effect, “The car crashed
into the tree because the driver was texting while driving.”
muncul tanpa adanya sebab.
The COVID-19 pandemic will greatly affect the performance of employees at Ruang Raya Ltd.

berikut:
Kalimat cause and effect umumnya berbentuk complex sentence, yaitu sebuah tipe kalimat
Then, untuk membentuk kalimat cause and effect, kita membutuhkan linking words. Tapi,
dalam cause and effect relationship, orang lebih banyak menyebutnya dengan signal words
atau causal linking.
Signal Words dalam Cause and Effect Relationship
Jadi, linking words adalah kata-kata yang menghubungkan antara satu ide dengan ide lain
dalam sebuah kalimat (kata penghubung). Istilah linkng words sifatnya lebih general.
Sementara itu, signal words dan causal linking adalah connector berupa kata/frasa yang bisa
digunakan dalam kalimat sebab akibat (cause and effect). Ya, secara fungsi sebetulnya sama
saja, hanya penyebutan atau definisinya saja yang berbeda.
Sebetulnya ada banyak jenis signal words dalam bahasa Inggris, ada signal words addition,
signal words similarities, signal words differences, termasuk signal words yang menyatakan
cause and effect.
Berikut ini beberapa signal words dalam cause and effect yang bisa kamu gunakan:
Because (karena)
On account of (karena)
Due to (karena)
Then (kemudian)
Hence (karenanya)
Outcome (hasil)
So (jadi)
Consenquently (akibatnya)
Finally (akhirnya)
In order to (untuk)
Upshot (hasil)
In consequence (konsekuensinya)
Reaction (reaksi)
Accordingly (demikan)
In this type, a signal word will be followed by a noun or noun phrase. Do you still remember
what a noun phrase is? A noun phrase is a phrase consisting of a noun (noun) and all its
modifiers (usually determiners and modifiers).
The following are examples of signal words commonly used in this type of sentence:
Because of
Thanks
As a result of
Due to
As a consequence of
Owing to
What you need to underline is that the clause that states the cause will always be stored after
the signal words. Commonly used sentence structures are as follows:
An example sentence is as follows, pay attention to the cause and effect in the underlined part!
2. Cause and Effect (Cause and Effect Sentence) Followed by Subject + Verb

Still the same as the rules for the first type, you have to put a clause indicating the cause after
the signal words. The sentence pattern is the same, namely:
