Practical Connection Assignment

I work as a Software Developer for a startup company, which is located in New York City, New

York. “Data Science & Big Data Analytics” course was very informative and provided us with

knowledge on how an organization can deal with unstructured data at their end and convert it

into structured data. “Data Science & Big Data Analytics” explains how understanding and

visualizing data will help an organization to be smarter, efficient, proactive. It also explains how

a company can be profitable and keep it is consumer base happy. This course gave me an

understanding of how to view, analyze, and understand data. Many benefits can be experienced

by the companies if they implement the best practices taught through this course. This course had

a perfect balance between the theoretical concepts and practical assignments. This was very

useful to all the students. Most of the assignments required the students to be hands-on while

using the tools/technology. This ensured a more profound understanding of the students about the

concepts. The hands-on experience gave us the confidence to use some of the technology and

tools at my workspace. Concepts learned from this course helped in dealing with real-life

circumstances at the workspace. Some of the concepts from this course can be implemented for

any new developments in the future. We got to learn about ‘R’ language and how to use it to deal

with unstructured data. ‘R’ gave an excellent introduction into the world of Data Analytics. It

proved to be a powerful tool for data grouping or finding patterns from a given set of data. This

information helped me in improving my Data Analytic skills and also my Data Visualization

skills. We were also introduced to Hive and Impala. These both along with ‘R’ language were an

excellent addition to my repertoire. These provided me with an edge over my competitors in the

IT field. Using the concepts from “Data Science & Big Data Analytics” I was able to analyze the

error logs from servers and applications at my office, I was able to visualize this data and find

patterns among them for re-occurring errors. I frequently deal with my application Database,

“Data Science & Big Data Analytics,” which helped me in visualizing the data and creating new

custom reports for the information from my backend databases. As a Software Developer, this

course motivated me to learn newer technologies and tools which would foster my career

growth. With the help of “Data Science & Big Data Analytics,” I was able to be more productive

and efficient at my workplace.

Taking “Data Science & Big Data Analytics” proved a good move for me professionally; it

helped me at both my workspace and real-life scenarios. This course made me look at data in a

new kind of light, and it made me understand that data is not just a collection of words and

sentences. It comprises of a brand-new world waiting to be explored. All in all, I am very with

this course, and I am very excited about the new things I will get to learn in the upcoming

classes, cannot wait for it.
