cord traction and counter traction on the uterus, continuing
until placenta is delivered.

 Checks the characteristics/completeness of the placenta 1
15. Inspect the lower vagina and perineum for lacerations/tears and assist in 2
the repair (episiorraphy) as necessary.
16. Cleans the mother, flushes the perineum and applies perineal 2
pad/napkin/cloth
17. Dispose the placenta in leak-proof container or plastic bag 1
18. Decontaminates instruments for 10 minutes before cleaning 1
19. Advise the mother to maintain skin to skin contact with the baby. Baby 4

Newborn Competencies
1. Thoroughly dries the baby at leaser 30 seconds while performing a quick 4
check for breathing.
2. Removes the wet cloth
3. Places baby in skin to skin contact on the mother’s abdomen or chest 4
4. Cover the baby with the dry cloth and the baby’s head with the bonnet 2
5. Performs properly-timed cord clamping
 Palpates umbilical cord to check pulsation 1
 After pulsations stop, clamp the cord using plastic clamp or cord tie 1
2 cm from the base
 Places the instrument clamp 5cm from the base or 3cm from the 1
plastic clamp.
 Cut the cord near the plastic clamp 1
6. Checks baby’s color and breathing. May perform and interpret APGAR 2
scoring.
7. Maintains the baby in a skin to skin contact. Baby should be prone on the 4
mother’s chest or between breasts with the head turned to one side
8. Observes for breastfeeding cues 2
9. Waits for full breastfeeding to be completed 1
10. Administer eye ointment. (CREDE’s Prophylaxis) 1

 Arrange materials/supplies in a linear sequence: gloves, dry linen,
cloth/napkin( for Ritgens maneuver), bonnet, oxytocin injection, 2
plastic clamp, instrument clamp,scissors,2 kidney basins
2. Performs sterilization procedure. 1
3. Maintains adequacy of supplies as the delivery progresses. 1
4. Maintains orderliness of the sterile table. 1
5. Observes precautionary measures related to use of electrical equipment. 1
6. Ensures a quiet and draft free environment. 1
