Introduction
Welcome to the Student Assessment Tasks for SITXWHS005 Participate in safe work practices.
These tasks have been designed to help you demonstrate the skills and knowledge that you have
learnt during your course.
Please ensure that you read the instructions provided with these tasks carefully. You should also
follow the advice provided in the Hospitality Works Student User Guide. The Student User Guide
provides important information for you relating to completing assessment successfully.
● Assessment Task 1: Observations – This task requires the student to work safely in the
kitchen on three separate occasions. It is to be co-assessed with any other practical cooking
assessment.
● Assessment Task 2: Project – This task requires you to complete the following activities:
You will require time in the kitchen to complete Assessment Task 1. This may be in your
College’s training kitchen or in a commercial kitchen in your student’s workplace. You will find
more information about the requirements for training/commercial kitchens in the Hospitality
Works Trainer and Assessor User Guide.

Activities
Complete the following activities.
This assessment task is a practical one where you will demonstrate your ability to
work safely in the kitchen on three separate occasions. Your assessor will provide
you with the specific details of your tasks to complete while in the kitchen. This unit
will be co-assessed while completing other practical assessment tasks. Your
assessor will provide you with the details directly of which unit/units will be co-
assessed with this unit.
● Make sure you are familiar with your College or training environment’s WHS
policies and procedures, hazard reporting requirements and safe work
practices that you have learned and trained with during the training part of this
unit.
● Think about the reporting requirements that are in place at your College or
kitchen environment and what to do in case of a breach.
● Review the observation checklist for this assessment task so you know the
criteria you are going to be assessed against.

You will now debrief after the simulation to discuss the event and your response
and will then complete an individual incident report as though the simulation were
real.

next time?
● How did you feel during the simulation and how has this prepared you in case
of a real event?
● What are your key takeaways from your participation in the simulation?
