TEST
Determine whether each figure below is a
polygon or not.

POLYGON POLYGON
NON-POLYGON NON-POLYGON
POLYGON NON-POLYGON
POLYGON 8. NON-POLYGON
__________
2 Greek
words
A polygon is a closed
poly -“many”
plane figure made up of
gonia/gon -
“angles”
three or more line segments
joined at their endpoints.
Polygon means NOTE:
“many angles”. The segments are noncollinear and do not
cross each other.
These are not polygons. Why?

1 2 3 4
Figures 1 and 2 consist of not only segments but also
curve lines.
Figure 3 is not a closed plane figure.
The segments of figure 5 crossed each other.
The figures are all polygons because
they satisfy all the conditions in the
definition of a polygon.
Decide whether the figure is POLYGON or NOT.

c.

POLYGON NOT a POLYGON

d.

NOT a POLYGON POLYGON

Polygons are named
by writing consecutive
vertices in a clockwise
or counterclockwise
rotation.
Note:
You may start with Name: polygon FAITH
any vertices Name: polygon FHTIA
Point F
vertices/vertexes –
plural form Point A

- the intersection of Point I

two sides Point T
- the points where the Point H
segments meet
•F, •A, •I, •T, •H
𝐅𝐀
- segment joining 𝐀𝐈
two consecutive
vertices 𝐈𝐓

- segments forming 𝐓𝐇
the polygon 𝐇𝐅
𝐅𝐈
- segment joining 𝐅𝐓
any two
𝐀𝐇
nonconsecutive
vertices 𝐀𝐓
𝐈𝐇
∠𝐅
- an angle inside ∠𝐀
the polygon at
one of its ∠𝐈
vertices (formed by ∠𝐓
two adjacent sides)
∠𝐇
G

∠𝐑𝐈𝐓
N
- an angle outside ∠𝐏𝐓𝐇
the polygon
formed by one of ∠𝐖𝐇𝐅 R
its sides and the
∠𝐍𝐅𝐀
extension of an W
adjacent side ∠𝐆𝐀𝐈 P
Use the given polygon at the right to name the
following.

a.Name
b.Vertices
c.Sides
d.Diagonals
e.Interior Angles
f.Exterior Angle
Use the given polygon at the right to name the
following.

A. NAME

following.

C. SIDES
𝐇𝐎 𝐄𝐒

𝐎𝐍 𝐒𝐓

Use the given polygon at the right to name the
following.

D. DIAGONALS
𝐇𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐒𝐎
𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐍 𝐒𝐍
𝐇𝐒 𝐓𝐄 𝐎𝐄
Use the given polygon at the right to name the
following.

E. INTERIOR ANGLES

∠𝐇 ∠𝐒
∠𝐎 ∠𝐓
∠𝐍 ∠𝐍𝐄𝐒 𝐨𝐫∠𝐒𝐄𝐍
Use the given polygon at the right to name the
following.

F. EXTERIOR ANGLE

∠𝐍𝐄𝐊 𝐨𝐫∠𝐊𝐄𝐍
and
CONVEX POLYGON
- all diagonals lie entirely inside the polygon
- All interior angles measure less than 180°
CONCAVE POLYGON
- not all diagonals lie entirely inside the polygon
- At least one interior angle measures greater than 180°

- refers to a cave, or the polygon is “caving in”

Decide whether the polygon is CONVEX or CONCAVE.

CONVEX CONCAVE CONCAVE

CONCAVE CONVEX CONVEX

EQUILATERAL POLYGON
A polygon is equilateral if all its sides
are equal.
EQUIANGULAR POLYGON
A polygon is equiangular if all its angles
are equal.
REGULAR POLYGON
A polygon is regular if all its sides are
congruent and all its angles are congruent
(both equilateral and equiangular)

Equilateral Regular Regular

IRREGULAR POLYGON
A polygon is irregular if its sides are not
equal and its angles are not equal.

I can do this !

A 10-point mystic rose template is

provided to the students. Using the
template, they should be able to come up
with a design by coloring any area/region
they desire. After that, they will name all
the polygons they have shaded and tell
whether they are convex or concave
polygons.
1. What is a polygon?
2. What are the parts of
a polygon?
3. Differentiate convex
from a concave polygon.
4.Differentiate regular from
an irregular polygon.
