Business Management Subject Brief G11-G12

Level: Diploma Programme Grade: G11-G12

Teacher: José Emilio Paredes Dates: 15/03/2024 to 22/12/2024
The business management course is designed to meet the current and future needs of students who want to develop their
knowledge of business content, concepts and tools to assist with business decision-making. Future employees, business leaders,
entrepreneurs or social entrepreneurs need to be confident, creative and compassionate as change agents for business in an
increasingly interconnected global marketplace. The business management course is designed to encourage the development of
these attributes. Through the exploration of four interdisciplinary concepts: creativity, change, ethics and sustainability, this course
empowers students to explore these concepts from a business perspective. Business management focuses on business functions,
Subject management processes and decision-making in contemporary contexts of strategic uncertainty. Students examine how business
description decisions are influenced by factors that are internal and external to an organization, and how these decisions impact upon a range
of internal and external stakeholders. Emphasis is placed on strategic decision-making and the operational business functions of
human resource management, finance and accounts, marketing, and operations management. The business management course
encourages the application of local, national and global examples to content and concepts; the internal assessment for both SL
and HL is an individual business research project that allows greater analysis and evaluation of content, concepts and context. A
deeper understanding of an organization through the lenses of creativity, change, ethics and sustainability is encouraged wherever
possible.

Suggestions for self-study
Self-study is not about studying longer, it’s about studying smarter. Find a place to study that is comfortable and free from distractions. Avoid procrastinating, it takes a
lot of additional work and time to catch up. Make a realistic schedule to ensure you’re making progress along the way and that you’re prepared for evaluations. Study
groups can be an effective strategy to enhance learning. Use the resources in Google Classroom and review your BM book constantly. When taking on a challenging
case study, break it down into manageable parts that you can analyze. Embracing self-study means going beyond the classroom, exploring additional resources, and
nurturing your curiosity. It requires dedication, discipline, and a growth mindset. Learn the aims of the course, as well as the competences on which you are evaluated.
Remember, every hour you spend studying independently is an investment in your future success. Do not underestimate the value of self-study, it can (and will) have a
significant impact in your learning process.
