Object: Split Range Controller Implementation and Its Controlling
Object: Split Range Controller Implementation and Its Controlling
PROCEDURE:
1. Firstly, Put the three valve and heat exhanger from the model palette, water as composition
and ASME steam as fluid package
2. Secondly we identify the source of the controlled variable, focusing on regulating the
temperature of stream number 3.
3. We then designate two output targets, which will utilize the set points of the respective
controllers. In essence, the split range controller's output will serve as the set point for the
specified flow controllers.
4. Moving on to configuration settings in the parameter tab, we establish the low and high limits
for the split range controller's output.
5. In the split range setup tab, we determine the behavior for FIC-101. If the controller output
ranges from 0% to 50% in invert action, FIC-101 will be engaged while FIC-100 remains
unchanged. Beyond 50% to 100%, the split range controller's output switches to FIC-100.
6. Currently, the set point is set at 52.53°C. We proceed to set up the strip chart for the split
range controller, selecting the relevant variables.
7. Transitioning to the dynamic environment, if there's an error concerning the mixer, we address
it by toggling the check option in the alternate tab to proceed.
8. Before initiating the simulation, we ensure that both FIC-100 and FIC-101 are in cascade
mode, as they will receive the set point from the split range controller. Thus, both controllers'
modes are adjusted accordingly.
9. With the system configured as a cascaded split range controller, we set the split range
controller itself to AUTO mode.
10. Finally, we run the simulation and analyze the outcomes.
LAB REPORT
Q1. What change did you observe in the strip chart when the temperature is change at various
values of the split range controller?
In the beginning, the temperature target is set to 52.53 degrees Celsius by default. We see that
this target, shown in red, matches up closely with the actual temperature, shown in green.
representation ,it's evident that the cold stream is getting cooler while the hot stream is getting
warmer. Meanwhile, the set point matches up with the process variable at 55 Celsius
In the third situation, the temperature target is raised to 58 degrees Celsius. The set point
matches the actual temperature. The hot stream is slightly increased as the temperature rises,
Finally, the temperature target is raised to a maximum of 59 degrees Celsius. The set point
matches the actual temperature. As the temperature goes up, the hot stream increases a bit
