READING

Read the article about Rupert Grint, a British actor.

Life after Harry Potter for Rupert Grint

British Rupert Alexander Lloyd Grint is now a

busy man since he acted in the Harry Potter films. He was born in
1988 in Harlow, Essex. It’s about 30 miles from London. He’s an English actor who rose to
prominence playing Ron Weasley, one of the three main characters in the Harry Potter film
series.
At eleven Rupert Grint was cast as Ron Weasley, having previously acted only in
school plays and at his local theatre group. Grint says, “I always had an interest in drama, even
at school I always got involved in plays and loved acting. But I didn’t actually realise it was a job
back then, I just thought it was something people do and don’t get paid for it”, he laughs.
From 2001 to 2011, he starred in all eight Harry Potter films alongside Daniel Radcliffe
and Emma Watson. Beginning in 2002, Grint began to work outside of the Harry Potter
franchise, taking on a co-leading role in Thunderpants. He had starring roles in Driving Lessons,
released in 2006, and Cherrybomb in 2010.
Grint often gets followed down the street or accosted in bars. “You develop an instinct
for it. You can hear people saying your name, feel their stares. But it depends where you are.
Here in Britain, people are a lot more reserved. In America it’s kind of crazy: louder, a few
screams, and they want me to sign stuff.”
After rising to fame as Harry Potter’s sidekick, it seems Rupert Grint is working some
magic of his own on his property portfolio. Rupert Grint has a new company to manage the
income from his multi-million pound housing empire, the Daily Mail can reveal. The actor bought
three properties around his home village for a combined £9.2 million. Another three, worth £3.7
million, are registered in the names of his mother Joanna, 46, and father Nigel, 49. Grint lives in
an 18th century mansion bought for £5.4 million.
