8C - Criterion C and D - The Sprinkler Problem
● You may use any quantity and combination of the available sprinklers (3 radial sizes).
● There are 3 sizes of sprinklers with radial ranges of 15m, 20m, and 25m. (Radial means radius)
● You may not overlap sprinklers, or water the same area more than once.
● Piping costs $40 per meter. How did you determine the length of piping required?
● You must create/include a scale diagram in 2-D of your optimal configuration of piping and
sprinklers.
● What % of the field were you able to water?
● What degree of accuracy are you using? Why?
● Does your solution make sense in real life? Why?
You have a sports field that measures 85 meters by 75 meters. You need to water it
to keep it in good condition for football and other sports.
You need to connect a Pipe System, which begins at the “source”, then runs along
the perimeter of the field to connect to all of the sprinklers.
