Application:

The V-Mod’s flexible design allows for ease of installation in almost any system, large or small. V-
Mod fixtures plug one into the other in series, in any orientation, which eliminates individual wiring
to each fixture. The nominal lengths (18”, 24” & 36”) can accommodate almost any installation.
The V-Mod functions as either a “side access” system or in a traditional “built-up bank”
arrangement. This is made possible through the use of an exclusive stainless steel channel
“mounting rail” and fixture design. The combination becomes an optional sliding mechanism when
needed. The V-Mod may be installed to irradiate coils and drain pans where UVC degrades organic
and microbial build-up to save significant energy and maintenance costs. They are also used in
return and supply ducts, mixed air plenums, to irradiate filters, and in exhaust systems. Once
installed, the fixture position can be permanently fixed or left to slide out of the plenum through an
access panel.

Build-Up Installation Steps:
1. Compare packing list with equipment received to confirm receipt of all equipment necessary for
installation. (Consult your UVDI/Altru-V Representative or Distributor for a detailed drawing of
where to properly mount rails and fixtures – See example on Page 4)
2. Measure the width of the cooling coil or target surface and the inside dimension of the plenum to
insure combination of fixtures will fit in plenum.
3. Using the inside plenum dimension, measure and mark mounting rail so the mounting rail fits
within the plenum walls. (P/N 17-4022)
4. With appropriate saw, cut the mounting rail to length
5. If length of the combined fixtures is longer than a single mounting rail, the Mounting Rail will
need to be spliced together (see example).

Installation Tip #1- Splicing Mounting

Rails:

Splicing can be accomplished by first

measuring and marking the extra length
required using a square. Then using a hack
saw or other cutting device; cut the rail to
length. Next cut an 8” splice piece from the
remainder of rail material. To secure the
splice you must join the three pieces of rails
together as seen in the example. Clamping
and alignment are important to ensure that the
Figure 2: MUST BE FLUSH
track is square, and butted tightly together. At
this point, drill 4 holes minimum (two each
side) at 1” and 3” on both ends of splice as
seen in the example. Once completed bolt
together pieces and tighten. *Note: When you

straight and aligned to not have any gaps,
overlapping, or sagging of any kind. Track
should be one continuous line and have a
smooth transition.

6. Vertical supports (not supplied) will be necessary to mount the rail. The rail can overhang the
vertical supports by no more than 24”. Mount vertical supports roughly 12”-15” from face of
target surface.

Figure 4

Note: all dimensions given in Figure 4 are Maximum Recommended Dimensions.

7. Rails must be installed with notches facing downward.

Installation Tip #2- Support Placement:

When using only one rail length for the assembly, it is

acceptable to use only two vertical supports. However,
when additional rail lengths are required for the assemblies
and where a splice is used, vertical supports must be a
maximum 48” on center.

17-3017 Rev I, 10/08/07

7
8. Secure mounting rail to vertical support using a bolt and pre-punched holes in mounting rail. If
needed, drill holes in mounting rail to ensure a level rail.

Figure 5

Note: all dimensions given accept as noted in Figure 5 are Maximum Recommended
Dimensions.

Installation Tip #3:

Rails must be secured to the vertical supports to not

have any buckle or binding of the rail, allowing rail to be
straight and true.

17-3017 Rev I, 10/08/07

8
9. On the Rail end opposite the power source, drill a hole for a screw to act as a rail stop for the
fixtures. Insert a sheet metal screw into the hole and tighten. This screw is meant to ensure the
fixtures cannot slide off the end of the rail.

10. Slide the first fixture on the track with the male plug towards the stop screw. Slide the correct
combination of fixtures onto mounting rail(s) so that the male end of the fixture plugs into the
female receptacle of the next. Repeat until all fixtures are mounted on rail.
11. At the terminal end of the fixture row, slide the Hard-Wire Module (P/N 17-4018) onto the rail,
plugging the male plug into the female receptacle of the last fixture. Using the screw provided,
secure the Hard-Wire Module to the mounting rail. Ensure the fixtures will not slide off this side
of the rail.
12. Install the End Cap. (see detail on page 11.)

13. Repeat steps 6-11 until each row is complete

NOTE: The Hard-Wire Module was designed for hardware connection to 120V/60Hz circuit
and will accept standard ½” conduit fittings.

NOTE: Electrical installation shall be conducted by a certified or licensed professional

support personnel and in accordance with NEC regulations, and local building codes. Please
see Fig. 6 (pg. 12) and Fig. 7 (pg. 12) for Wiring diagram and electrical assembly instructions.

14. Remove the Hard Wire Module cover to provide access. Power to fixtures should be controlled
by a safety switch(s) that will cause the UV fixtures to be shut-down if the space is accessed.

IMPORTANT: ALWAYS RUN POWER SUPPLY THROUGH ELECTRICAL
