Reading Session:
Reading Material: slam poem by Rey Angelo Aurelio
(translated by Sarah Christine Barros) (see attachment)
Sharing & Facilitate the sharing and deepening activities using HOTS-
Deepening SOLO through different strategies.

LOTS Comprehension Questions:

1. Who is the speaker in the poem?
2. What is happening and will happen to the speaker in
the poem?
3. Who is the addressee in the poem?
4. What does the addressee do in the poem?

HOTS Comprehension Questions:

1. How does the speaker feel about dying and death?
2. How does the speaker achieve the acceptance of dying
and death?
3. If you were the addressee of the poem, how would you
respond to the speaker?
4. Do you have the same thoughts about death? / What is
your thought about death?

RESEARCH AND AWARENESS:

The speaker of the poem is in dying stage because of STI

complications. Show the table of the common symptoms
of STI. Focus on the (1) symptoms first. Students can
relate to or can at least imagine these. After each
symptom, discuss the (2) possible STI that may cause
the symptoms. Memorizing the (3) causative agents may
not be as important at their level but are good to know.

For (4) possible complications, discuss that undiagnosed

and untreated STI can lead to several serious
consequences.
Valuing

Reading Skill: Cause and Effect Reading Skill

Using the table of STI symptoms, demonstrate the cause-and-
effect relationship. Ask, “Why did that happen?” and “What
happened as a result of?”

Cause and Effect Graphic Organizer:

Use the cause-and-effect graphic organizer for the students to
practice the cause and effect reading skill.

Valuing Teacher Spill:

After learning, the common symptoms of STI, DO NOT
DIAGNOSE YOURSELF and DO NOT TREAT YOURSELF or
take non-prescribed medications for suspected STI. You
should talk to your parents, teacher, guidance counselor, or
school nurse. If you have any concerns regarding your sexual
health. Do not be ashamed or afraid. They will help you!

ABCDE HIV and STI Prevention:

Guess the icons.

ANSWER KEY:
GROUP ACTIVITY 1: Web of Connectedness
Let the learners share their thoughts about the ways of
preventing HIV and STI. Give each group a yarn. Each member
will hold the string whenever they share their thoughts until
they make a web-like pattern.

GROUP ACTIVITY 2: Decision-Making Skills

Give the situations and let the groups make a final decision on
the following situations:

Scenario 1: Sam was being teased by his friends from not

having experienced sex yet. He is the only one among his circle
of friends who haven’t indulged into this kind of activity. What
will you tell Sam?
Scenario 2: If Sam decides to have sex, what advice will you
give Sam?
Scenario 3: Sam engaged in a sexual activity and after a week,
he experienced unusual genital discharge or “tulo”. Sam
panicked and told you about it. What advice would you give
Sam?

Key message: Your students should not be ashamed

or scared to ask about STI. Sam can talk to trusted
adults (i.e. parents, school clinic staff, teacher,
guidance
counselor, doctor, nurse, etc).
