TOURISM CARRYING CAPACITY OF TALISAYAN
Macabebe’s main tourism draw is located in Barangay Consuelo where the 15,500sqm
Consuelo Eco-Park is located. The Eco-Park has a black sand beach and 124 hectares
of mangrove plantation with an annual visitor number of 17,280 which usually spikes
during the summer. This eco-park is adjacent to the proposed wetland center which is
Talisayan. Talisayan has approximately 40,000 sqm consisting of different activities and
spaces for wetland conservation.
The activities below are calculated for the tourism carrying capacity of Talisayan:
Board walking
Kayaking
Swimming
Bird watching
Factors that affect a tourist's comfort such as the necessary distance between two
people and the distance between two groups on a route should be considered.
Therefore, the following physical parameters are included:

Total length of areas covered by tourist activities: 1,000 m

Average length of sunset deck and boardwalk/nature trail per person: 2.0 m per
person
Number of people in each group: 5 persons
Distance between two groups on the sunset deck: 2m
Average time for using walkable areas: 2 hours
Beach-using period: starting from 8 am to 4 pm hours (with 8 safe hours)

Let x be the maximum number of groups going into the sunset deck. The number of
groups is expressed by the equation:
(x × 5 × 2) + (x −1) × 2 = 1000
x = 84 groups

Tourism activities occupy 6 hours a day, each tourist takes about 2 hours:
Rf = 8/2
Number of visits per day = 4

where Rf: Rotation factor (number of visits per day)

PCC is the maximum number of tourists that can physically fit into or onto a
specific area, over a particular time:
PCC = A × D × Rf
PCC = x × 5 × 4
PCC = 84 × 5 × 4
PCC = 1,680 visitors/day

Thus, the maximum number of tourists that Talisayan could physically serve is about 1,680
visitors per day. However, the tourism carrying capacity for the area is not yet surpassed
by the number of annual visitors.
where:
A: available area for use (m 2);
D: tourist density (tourists / m 2);
Rf: Rotation factor (number of visits per day).
