Yanbu Royal Commission, Saudi Arabia

The Yanbu Royal Commission Uses Rain Bird® Solutions to Improve &
Streamline Water Conservation Efforts
Yanbu City is one of the largest industrial cities in the Western Province of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The city is
undergoing residential development which includes replacing old irrigation systems with new networks of
Sub-Surface Dripline irrigation.

THE CHALLENGE:

Yanbu City is on the coast of the Red Sea and pays a high cost for sourced irrigation water. For this
reason, the Yanbu Royal Commission places high priority on water conservation. With hot temperatures
and windy conditions most of the year, ongoing maintenance of overhead irrigation is a challenge.
The city is also concerned with managing run-off from walkways and roadways that could cause car
accidents or threaten pedestrian safety.

THE SOLUTION:

To address water conservation and environmental

challenges, Yanbu City will install a highly efficient sub-
surface irrigation system utilizing innovative Rain Bird
dripline and market-leading valves. This will result in
a sustainable, low-maintenance system that will help
reduce water use and prioritize residents’ safety by
preventing wasteful, dangerous runoff.

APPROACH:

Go Underground
Install Rain Bird’s XFS Sub-Surface Dripline with
Copper Shield™ technology to deliver water at
or near the root zone, eliminating water loss
caused by overspray, runoff, windy conditions,
and evaporation. Made of proprietary tubing
material, the XFS Sub-Surface Dripline is the
most flexible tubing in the industry, and will
be easy to install in public parks, roadways,
highways, street medians, and slopes.

Rely on Reclaimed Water

To make the most of limited water resources,
the sub-surface irrigation system will feature

Maximum Efficiency with

Minimal Costs
With the help of Rain Bird products, the Yanbu Royal
Commission was able to improve water conservation
efforts and reduce associated maintenance
costs and requirements. Thanks to the system’s
compatibility with reclaimed water, Yanbu City can
lower operational costs and leverage greater water
savings. By applying water directly to the root zone,
dripline irrigation has helped prevent runoff, limit
overspray, and protect residents throughout the city.
