    INTRODUCTION :
    • Rainwater Harvesting is an outcome of awareness among the
    people regarding the water scarcity.
    • Reutilization of waste water.
    • It can be a cost-effective alternative to other water-accruing
    methods.
    • This can be used for private and public buildings as well as for
    many industrial areas.
    • As rainwater harvesting – neither energy- intensive nor labor-
    intensive.
    What is Rainwater Harvesting ?
    • Rainwater Harvesting is the accumulating
    and storing of rainwater by artificial
    methods for further utilization.

    • The principal of collecting and using


    precipitation from a catchments surface.

    • Mostly done by roof-top harvesting and is


    used for domestic and agriculture purpose.
    Necessity of Rainwater Harvesting :
    • To reduce soil erosion.

    • To conserve surface water runoff during monsoon.

    • Environmental Change.

    • To improve the quality of ground water.

    • To avoid flood & water stagnation in urban areas.

    Components of Roof top Rainwater Harvesting system :

     Catchments

     Gutters

     Conduits

     First flush

     Storage facility
    • Catchments : The Catchments of a water harvesting system is the surface which directly
    receives the rainfall and provides water to the system.

    • Gutters : Channels all around the edge of a sloping roof to collect and transport rainwater
    to the storage tank.

    • Conduits : Pipelines or drains that carry rainwater from the catchment or rooftop area to
    the harvesting system.

    • First flush : It helps the quality of water you collect. It works by capturing the first flush of
    rainwater that runs off your roof, which often contains the most contaminates
    and pollutants.

    • Storage facility : The method of collecting and storing rainwater for


    later use.
    Surface Run-off Harvesting :
    • Rainwater that is not captured directly, used by agriculture or absorbed into
    the ground becomes surface water.
    • This can provide water from direct households use, livestock's and irrigation.
    • Storing water in an aquifer conserves water better as it
    prevents evaporation.
    Use of Rainwater Harvesting :

    • Domestic use

    • Agriculture use

    • Increase groundwater supplies

    • Industrial & commercial use


    ADVANTAGES :

    • Provides self- sufficiency to water supply.


    • Reduces the cost for pumping of ground water.
    • Reduces soil erosion and flooding in urban areas.
    • Improves the quality of ground water through dilution when
    recharged.
    • Easy to maintain.
    • Reducing water bills.
    DISADVANTAGES :

    • Regular maintains.
    • Initial cost is high.
    • Storage capacity limits.
    • Vulnerable water quality.
    CONCLUSION :

    • Since we cannot produce energy, but we can save it by preventing wastage.

    • Rainwater harvesting saves water, money, and the environment.

    • Harvested water can be used daily households works.

    • Most use full for large scale application.
