Phase Behavior

 The purpose of bottomhole sampling is to return a

REPRESENTATIVE reservoir sample to the surface

 Understanding hydrocarbon phase behavior is crucial to

collecting a REPRESENTATIVE sample

 A REPRESENTATIVE sample has to be single phase and

above reservoir pressure

ARMADA™ Agile

© 2016 HALLIBURTON. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. 39

Armada Agile

Armada™ Agile

Agile is a modification of the 5” carrier. The main difference is that the common
nitrogen section is replaced by 1.0 in OD N2 tubes (HP) similar to the ARMADA
7” design.
It is half the length of the Armada 5” System (no N2 case is used)
As the name implies, the Agile design offers considerable flexibility, though a
maximum of only 6 samplers can be run.

Armada Agile

Armada™ Agile

- Nitrogen interface donut comprises 3

independent and isolated sections.
- Each section is associated with 3 slots which
can be any combination of samplers and
nitrogen tubes.
- Multiple potential offerings of samplers and
N2 tubes can be tailored to meet the needs of
any specific situation.

ARMADA™ Sampler Coating

H2S Adsorption

At low concentrations of H2S (< 20 ppm)

adsorption losses to stainless steel samplers can
distort the magnitude of the problem that the
operator could face during production. The use of
Inconel samplers and a special coating on all
wetted sampler surfaces minimizes this problem.

2 11.3 11.3 11.3

was moved 200 times and an inert ball was used to shake
and mix the gas before the sampling.

H2S Certification

As part of the manufacturing process of the Armada sampler

housings, they are internally coated to protect against low PPM
H2S loss during sample collection. Each sample housing is
tested for 6 days with a 20 ppm H2S in N2 gas mixture. The
maximum allowed drop in H2S concentration is 2 ppm. When a
sample housing passes this test, it is then certified that the
sampler passed Halliburton’s test requirements and the is made
available for sampling operations.

DOT Overpacks

© 2016 HALLIBURTON. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. 61

Transporting ARMADA Samples
The ARMADA sampler is not DOT or TPED rated for transportation.
Transporting the sample requires that it be first transferred to a DOT
or TPED rated cylinder.

Due to safety and space considerations the operator often require

that field personnel are off location as quickly as possible.

Halliburton has received DOT approval for an overpack design that

allows for safe and convenient transport of the sample section to an
on-shore lab. This also has advantages when special lab analysis is
required.

© 2016 HALLIBURTON. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. 62

Transporting ARMADA Samples
The overpack is rated for 14,000 psi.

After the sampling tools are retrieved to surface the sample section is
inserted into the overpack, which is then closed and readied for
shipment and the sampler makes up to the overpack.

The sample can also be immediately pressurized on recovery, placed

in the over pack, and the overpack further pressurized to minimize
sample pressure loss during transport/storage.

The overpack can be preheated to minimize temperature/pressure

loss of sample if recovered in cold ambient conditions.

© 2016 HALLIBURTON. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. 63

Transporting ARMADA Samples
Use of the overpack greatly simplifies sample handling offshore.

A lengthy and hazardous high T/P exercise is moved to a more

controlled environment

A laboratory environment has advantages when special analyses

such as H2S/Hg determinations need to be carried out on the virgin
reservoir fluid. It also reduces the risk of loss of these components
when transferring to non inert sample bottles. It is also easier for
operator personnel to attend if desired

 Node 3 to N – Downhole Stations Data packets

and commands from node 1 at computer to target
nodes at gauges and tools travel down and up the Node N-2
DynaLink Repeater
toolstring acoustically encoded. As acoustic
signals traveling the toolstring are attenuated and
Node N-1
affected by acoustic noise, a set of consecutive DynaLink Repeater
repeater stations rely the messages ensuring
communication. Each repeater picks the acoustic Tester Valve
message relayed by a neighbor node and relays it
in time. The repeater placement strategy ensures Node N
DynaString Carrier
that the node stations are so placed as to provide W / DynaLink Gauge
enough signal to their neighbor stations, without
compromising or communications by lack of
signal or bad signal to noise ratio.
