Munshi Prem Chand has been one of the greatest writer in Hindi. He was born in
a town near the holy city of Banaras on July 31, 1880. His real name was Dhanpat
Rai. Prem Chand was his pen-name. His father’s name was Ajayab Lal. Dhanpat
Rai’s mother died when he was only seven years old. His father married again.
Dhanpat Rai’s step-mother was a cruel woman, so he could get no love at home.
As a boy, he was very fond of reading story-books.
