1 (a) Discuss various factors affecting selection of electric motors for various loads/applications (3)
1(b) Name any five manufacturers of commercial electric drive systems for domestic applications. (2.5)
1(c ) Write basic motor load dynamical equation of an electric drive. State various assumptions made
in it. (1.5)
?24k) Explain closed-loop speed control of a multi-motor drive. (3)
?Mb) Half hour rating of a motor is 80 Kw. The heating time constant is 70 minutes and the maximum
efficiency occurs at 60% full load. Determine the continuous rating of the motor. (2.5)

(a) What are various methods of speed control of self excited DC Motor based Drives. (2)
?3(b) How a three phase power electronic converter can fed power in implementation of
starting and braking needs in a DC Motor drive employed in industrial processes? (3)
(c) In a typical Separately excited DC motor drive of torque rating 50 Nm, the armature constant
(Km) has a value of 1.5V/rad./sec.(1.5Nm/A), armature inductance islOmH and armature resistance
is 0.9 ohm .How much armature current can be estimated under lossless dynamics of this drive ? (2)

) 4(a) In some industrial process, A 3 Phase, 440V, 50Hz, 6 pole, 920 rpm, Y-connected induction motor
has the following parameters : Rs= 0.452, : Ri= 0.452, Xs = Xr= 1.20, Xm= 45Q. This motor is
driving a fan load, the torque of which is given by = 0.0123 units. Now one phase of the motor fails.
Calculate motor speed and current values. Comment on the operational safety aspects. Assume Stator
to Rotor Turns Ratio as 5. (4)
