METHOD OF USE FOR THE BONDING OF EXTERIOR WALL CLADDING PANELS

System:
Bonding systems for the blind fixation of (exterior) flat façade panels.
The system consists of the following elements:
• Foamtape (double-sided adhesive) for the initial bonding of the panel and to guarantee a sufficient
mass thickness of the applied adhesive
• Pretreatment of support construction like:
• black primer for bonding to wood
• (wash)primer for bonding to aluminium
• Pretreatment of panel like:
• Primer
• Cleaner
• Ready-to-use wipe towelette

Consult the Simson website for the correct adhesive and pretreatment products required for use.

In principle suited for the bonding of panels based on:

- HPL.
- Fibre cement.
- Plywood
- Aluminium (sandwich)
- Ceramics
- Compressed stone wool
- Natural stone

Consult the instructions of the panel supplier.

Properties:
- Simple and fast fixation.
- Long term high elasticity with optimum distribution of strain.
- Good moisture- and weather resistance.

SUPPORT CONSTRUCTION

The support construction is usually wood or aluminium.

- Suitable timber : Clean-planed, clean, dry, dust- and grease free types of wood (deal, pine-wood, meranti etc). Wood types
need to be sufficiently durable for building constructions according to NEN 6702. The maximum moisture content of the wood
should be 18%. The wood may contain preservatives, based on salts, zinc and copper according to NEN 3251 (for instance
Wolman salts).
- Suitable metal: Dry and smooth steel or aluminium. These types of metal must be rustproof and after fixing conform to NEN
6702. Enamelled metals are also suitable, however different instructions for use may apply. Enamelled metals are also suitable,
however different instructions for use may apply. Consult Bostik about this.
- Lacquers: A limited number of lacquers, applied by means of spraying, are suitable for bonding. Consult Bostik Findley about
this.

ventilation
In general there has to be an open ventilated cavity of at least 20 mm behind the panels.
Also there has to be ventilation openings at both the top and the bottom of the bonded panels

Ventilation openings in constructions of up to 1 m. : 20 cm²/m

Ventilation openings in constructions of more than 1 m. : 50 cm²/m

minimal joint width

The joint between the panels should in general have a minimal width of 10 mm.

dimensions and distances

The minimum width of supports in the support construction depends on the function of the supports:
I. Support for joints : 95 mm
II. End and intermediate supports : 45 mm
Also consult the detailed drawings.

Minimum thickness of (wooden) supports 19 mm

VERWERKING

Conditions
The panels can be both bonded inside (in a factory) aswell as outside (at the building site).

The following conditions apply:

• Do not pretreat of glue in case of rain
• Do not pretreat of glue in case of high air humidity, for instance with close fog.
• avoid the risk of condensation on the panels and support construction.
• apply between +5 and +30 °C

Pretreatment of the substrates:

The susbstrate must be clean, dry, dust- and grease free.

.
1. PRETREATMENT SUPPORT CONSTRUCTION

Consult the Simson wallpanel adhesive table for the pretreatment to be used for the particular panel.

Wooden support construction: Shake the unopened tin well before use. Pour the primer into the paint tray. Use the special
application set with the rollers for Simson Primer SX Black. Apply primer to the adhesion surface in such a way, that the primer
forms a continuous coat or film. After application minimum drying time is 60 minutes.
For more details refer to technical data sheet and label.

Aluminium support construction: Apply, straight from the tin, Primer PanelTack or Prep M onto a clean, dust- and pigment
free cloth or tissue paper Firmly rub the aluminium. Minimum dry time: 10 minutes.

Consult the Simson adhesive table for the pretreatment method required.
Exceptional use an abrasive paper or pad to the panel, prior to cleaning and/or priming may be necessary.
For more details refer to technical data sheet and label.

There are several possibilties regarding the pretreatment to be used:

. 2. PRETREATMENT PANEL

2.a. Simson EasyClean Wipes

Firmly rub the panel (where the adhesive is to be applied) over the full length in strokes of 10-15 cm width. These ready-to-use
towelettes are more human- and environment friendly than the commonly used solvented primers. Minimum dry time: 10
minutes.

2.b. Simson Primer PanelTack

Apply, straight from the can, primer Paneltack on a clean, dust- and pigment free cloth or tissue paper. Firmly rub the panel
(where the adhesive should come) over the full length in strokes of 10-15 cm width. Minimum drying time: 10 minutes.

2.c. Simson Cleaner 14

In some cases only cleaning with Simson Cleaner 14 is advised; applied in the same way as above (2.b.)

2.d. Simson Primer MSP or Primer SX Black

For porous materials Simson Primer MSP or SX Black is advised. In case of Primer SX Black shake the unopened tin well before
use. Pour the primer into the paint tray. Use the special application set with the rollers for Simson Primer SX black. Apply primer to
the adhesion surface in such a way, that the primer forms a continuous coat or film. After application minimum dry time is 60
minutes.

3. APPLICATION OF FOAMTAPE
Once the primers have dried, Simson Foam Tape is applied vertically to the support construction without any interruptions. Press
the Simson Foam Tape firmly onto the support construction and cut it with a sharp knife.
When deciding on the correct position and length of the tape also bear in mind the dimensions and function of the supports, the
dimensions of the panels and the necessary space for the adhesive. Do not remove the protective layer from the foam tape after
having applied this.

.
4. APPLICATION OF ADHESIVE WITH SPECIAL NOZZLE
After the Simson Foamtape has been applied, apply the adhesive vertically and without interruptions. Use a hand- or airpressure
gun with the special V-shaped nozzle. This enables to apply a triangular bead with a height to 9 mm.

5. PLACING THE PANEL

Now remove the protective layer from the Simson Foamtape. Apply the panels within 10 minutes after the adhesive has been
applied. Fix the panel by gently pressing it and, if necessary, correcting its position This is still possible, until the panel touches
the tape. If necessary use a joint spacer, supporting blocks or horizontal supporting timber. If necessary use a glass suction
clamp. Once the panels have been positioned correctly, they must be pressed down firmly, until they touch the foam tape
completely. Now it is no longer possible to correct the panel position.
See the detailed drawings.

6. CLEANING
Remove primer or uncured adhesive residues from the panels with Simson Liquid 1.
Use a clean, dust- and pigment free cloth or tissue paper.
