It is made up of two or more tones of different pitches played simultaneously. Most of us know what
is meant by the word “harmonize” or “blending” in which some people sing the melody while other
sing tones that blend or harmonize.

Harmony is a composite sound made up of two or more tones of different pitches sound
simultaneously. These notes/ tones have distances, which is called intervals. Intervals can be small
or large depending upon the pitches involved.

The root is found at the bottom of the chord. The second note is called the third because it sits
exactly on the third interval from the first note while the last note is called fifth because it sits
exactly on the fifth interval.

2. Motivation : Let the pupils sing the song “Bahay Kubo” and show to them the musical

Ask: What can you say about the placing of the notes in the staff?

melody and harmony.

In melody it has only one tone can be heard while harmony has more than one tone
can be heard. Meaning to say that tones are played together.

Guide the pupils in doing the task. Each group will identify the intervals on the
