What do you think makes it possible? They are used twice in each sentence but they
have different meaning which make the

about the words? Words might have the same spelling yet they
have different meanings.

For today’s meeting, we will discuss about Homonyms.

So, what do you think are Homonyms? Homonyms are words that have different
meanings but are pronounced the same or
spelled the same.

Good! I have some examples here. Please read. 1. Never desert your friends in the desert.

What is the transition word? “but” introduces a contrast.

Very good! In this sentence? 3. During the evening, you can review your
work.

Can you identify the transition word? “During” it is use to identify or indicate time.

How about in this example? What is the transition word or


phrase? 4. As a result, you should be a happy person.

“As a result” it is use to show the


consequences of an action

Very good! Next example, please read. 5. Ellen loves ice cream. Truly, she'd be happy
to eat sundaes every day.

What do you think is the transition word in the sentence? “Truly”, it adds emphasis or introduce
evidence.

How about in this sentence? Can you identify the transition word
or phrase? 6. Finally, his family will meet him at the
park.

“Finally”, is use to indicate order or sequence.

What do you think is the purpose of the words “and, but, during,
as a result, truly, and finally”? It is use as a bridge.

Very good! Then, what do you call words or phrases that


functions like a bridge? Transition word/s and phrases.

GENERALIZATION:

How will you know that the words in the sentence are If they are used twice in each sentence but they

Therefore, what is a Homonym? Homonym is the umbrella term for words with
any combination of the same spelling or sound
but with different meanings.

How about transition words and phrases? Transitional words are like bridges between
parts of your essay. They are cues that help the
reader interpret your ideas.

And there are how many kinds of transition words and phrases? 6 kinds.

What are they? - To Compare or link similar ideas:

- To indicate sequence:
First, second…, to begin with, finally,
next/ then etc.
