CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION:
Imagine the picture of you’re self stepping and entering in a crucial point- a crossroad
turning point that will help to shape your academic journey and potential, you’re future
career. This is the reality to faced the situation experienced by senior high school students
as they struggle within the important choice of selecting a strand. Among of this option
Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) strand is one of the choices available, often
misunderstood but full of promise. This is the study explore into the world of TVL
student. The study reveal the factors affect their choice of strand and highlighting the
true impact of this decision on their futures.

Choosing a strand for senior high school marks the start of a different road for students as
they move from basic education to track-based programs. Their choice is important in
establishing the fundamental building blocks of their educational and career journey.
There is a lot that comes into consideration for an individual when they are choosing who
it is they are going to spend the rest of their lives with. Students look into their interests,
what job opportunities are available to them as well as what their future goals are. In
addition, their standing in society and their family and friends influence them on this very
matter. As such, familiarizing oneself with their area of interest will foster and see to it
that one is on the correct path for their career since these aspects significantly contribute
to the choice of a prospective career path. (Goji et al., 2022.

Various studies center on students’ strand selection concerning parental participation. For
instance, in a study by Ruiz, Wee, and De Leon , their primary objective was to identify
the positive and negative influence of parents’ profession, own educational achievement,
and career aspiration on the desired profession of their children. The research approach
included the qualitative method using self-administered questionnaires, as well as
interviews. Results show that parents’ occupation, educational attainment, and career
aspiration contribute positively to the students’ career pathway. It can be considered as
the source and drive towards the students’ achievement in the coming years. Future
researchers could also examine the other factors affecting the students in selecting their
strands.

In this existing research, the trouble occurs from the elements that add to the decision-
making procedure of trainees particularly when selecting their career. If these elements
are not dealt with the scholastic as well as profession courses of these trainees might go
to threat possibly leading them astray from their real passions as well as goals. Elements
that can affect their decision-making consist of public preconception related to specific
career, job goals, both favorable as well as unfavorable peer impact, future work
associated with the selected career, as well as individual passions. It is essential to take
into consideration both the unfavorable as well as favorable factors that pupils might
have for picking a specific hair.

To research study along with deal with the aspects experienced by TVL pupils at Gov.
Efren B. Pascual Sr. Integrated Central School it is necessary to apply assistance as well
as treatment procedures. To start with, the college’s SSG leaders, educators as well as
principal can work together to arrange an understanding as well as education and learning
project. This program can consist of workshops, workshops plus numerous tasks targeted
at informing trainees, educators, along with moms and dads regarding the worth along
with value of TVL education and learning. By elevating understanding pupils that might
be dealing with obstacles in picking a hair can obtain the required support and also
expertise to make notified choices thinking about the lasting dedication included. These
treatments would certainly produce an extra comprehensive as well as helpful setting
within the college. The trainees would certainly gain from boosted approval plus
acknowledgment of their picked occupation courses, resulting in enhanced self-
confidence, inspiration along with a feeling of coming from the college neighborhood.

The purpose of this study is to find out what factors lead to societal stigma towards TVL
students, know how it impacts their self-esteem, aspirations, and overall wellbeing, and
come up with an invention or countermeasure. Students can make use of the resources
available within the school building, including the school library or computer labs, to find
the body of literature relevant to their area of research and data collection on the topic at
hand. Collaboration One final way that teacher researchers might help address this issue
is to collaborate with other student researchers who are studying the same or similar
issues, or with research groups or task forces that may already exist within the school.
This assistance, interchange of ideas, and support could help to build the supportive and
collaborative research environment necessary for this type of work. In addition, teachers
could present their findings to school administrators and other stakeholders, which would
raise awareness about the issue and might result in the mitigation of the social stigmas
associated with participation in the school breakfast program. Perhaps this could
eventually. Result in policy changes at the school level that would be more amendable to
how the teacher researcher sees them.
The study on exploring the Influence of Strand Preference among TVL students and its
implications on social stigma for TVL students will delve into the culture of the selected
strand the students find themselves in. The primary aim of this research will be to
elaborate on the kind of challenges faced by the TVL students and how the stigma of the
society marks an influence on the overall experience these students go through every day
at school. In carrying out this research we hope to uncover the drivers of societal stigma,
show the influence of this stigma on the self-esteem, aspirations and overall health of
TVL students, as well as suggest ways or methods that would help in alleviating the
impact of this stigma

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This is to find the factors affecting the choice of SHS strand in EXPLORING THE
INFLUENCE OF CHOOSING STRAND AMONG TVL STUDENTS AT GOVERNOR
EFREN B. PASCUAL SR. ORANI INTEGRATED CENTRAL SCHOOL SY. 2023-
2024

Thus, the study will deal to the following specific questions.

1.What are the factors influencing the students in choosing strand in GEPS OICS?

2.What are the greatest factors that influence grade 11 and grade 12 student in choosing a
track in TVL
Advise and advice of others
Parents influence
Friend/ peer influence?
3.is there a significant relationship in the following factors that influence grade 11 and
grade 12 in choosing a track in TVL
Advise and advice of others
Parents influence
Friend/peer influence?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Thus, it will be a very important element for students, parents, and high school
counselors in the way it will arm them with information that will be of need in finding
and making choices of colleges. Further, the results were that it .may provide a useful
tool for self-discovery by providing a framework for assessing appropriate college
choices. The outcome of this study should support the students in choosing the correct
and suitable degree for them.

This study will help the students, incoming senior high school of the school, to find out
the considerations in the selection of the college degree they will be enrolling in, which
they must consider their interest, natural skills, abilities, aims, and rewards. This study
will help them develop their decision-making ability. Most of the time, it happens that the
decisions taken by the students are wrong because they don’t give time for deciding what
they should take. This research will be big support for those who are confused about
deciding what to take. This career exploration will serve as awareness to the youths to
find the career direction. In grade 11, a student uses online resources to guide the student
into the direction of career clusters. This will help the students to know what influences
the factors in choosing a college degree; the major factors that affect the family influence,
advice and advice from others and friends influence are the general average during high
school and the demanding course during that year.

Moreover, to the junior and senior high school guidance counsellor, this study can be best
used for a source of credible best practices. Thus, career success of the students would
most appropriately be derived if proper guidance is given in choosing the right course in
college suited for the student's personality, ability, and intellect. Through career planning
integrated into the curriculum, it’s able to help students choose the career that best fits
them. This enables them to make a worthful decision with respect to the course they take
up in college. The better career plan for each student should also be a combined approach
from the high school guidance counsellor. This study will, in fact, guide all such parents
who are playing a major role in career development and career decision-making of their
children.

Every parent wants that his or her child pursues and attains a life full of happiness and
success. Career choice directly influences both. The research was also able to establish
that when students get all of the aforementioned support and, in fact, love from their
parents, they then feel ready to conduct the research on the career subject and, in fact,
ready to choose a career that will be interesting and thus exciting for them. This is
relevant, since it is found that teenagers who feel competent about making career
decisions make satisfying career decisions in the future. Besides, the parents influence
both the level of education or training that their children will have, which they will obtain
knowledge from work, and the different occupations. This, therefore, means that the
belief systems and attitudes toward work are other bases from which the motivation for
success emanates. These tendencies often learn unconsciously learned. Growing up,
children and adolescents would have learned their parent’s attitudes and expectations of
them.

This paper is not only of benefit to the students alone but also to the parents, etc. As
observed, most of the students who chose the course that is not really the course which
they want; it affects them mostly in their performance inside the school because they will
lose their interest in the field that is boring and caused their grades to be a little. It
enlightens them in regard that the choice of a college degree was an Issue not to be taken
as a matter of course due to the different considerations that had to be made, so as not to
cause conflicts.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study aims to determine the factors that influence students at Governor Efren B.
Pascual Sr. Orani Integrated Central School (GEPS OICS) who, for the academic year
2023-2024, have selected the TVL (Technical-Vocational Livelihood) strand.

These will be TVL students who are currently enrolled in the TVL strand at GEPS OICS
for the school year 2023-2024.There will be exclusion criteria with relation to the
participant (e.g., students not in the TVL strand or who are not around during the time of
data collection) so as not to compromise the eligibility of the sample.

The proposed and outlined methods of data collection will be those selected according to
which are ethical considerations and possible ways of accessing participants (individual
interviews, focus groups).

Inclusion: Include only the TVL students enrolled in the TVL strand at GEPS OICS as of
the academic year 2023-2024; otherwise, if not, TVL students are not included. Only
Willing to participate in the study and provide informed consent.

Exclusion: Students who will not fall under the TVL Strand at GEPS OICS for the
academic year 2023-2024. Unwilling students to participate or give informed consent.

The study need to be conducted to give a valuable insights to in light of this, it is

recommended that school guidance and career counseling programs should be
strengthened, which shall help the students make an informed choice about their future.
