1. To provide knowledge on various types of electrical

installations and services pertaining to M&E systems. 2. To expose students to the required rules and regulations in building services in compliances with Uniform Building byLaws 1984( Act 133), Street, Drainage & Building Act 1974 and Code of Practice on Energy Efficiency and Use of Renewable Energy for Non-residential Buildings (MS 1525: 2001) . 3. To provide knowledge on electrical designs and installations in compliance with national and international electrical code of practices, standards and specifications. To expose students to the modern concept of smart / intelligent and energy-efficient building designs, systems, and services. In the beginning of the course the students will be introduced to the basic concept and theory of electricity, power system and equipment. Then the students will be exposed to the various electrical equipment that are used in the building systems and services i.e. telecommunication system, data distribution system, security system, fire alarm system, lightening protection system etc. The students will also be

Course Synopsis

exposed to the internal electrical installation design and installation in compliance with national and international electrical code of practices and standards. For the maintenance proposes the student will be taught on the electrical failures, fault finding and analysis, trouble shooting and restoration of supply. The students are also exposed to the modern concept of smart and intelligent building through existing model smart buildings locally and internationally. The emphasis of this programme is an integrated approach, toward achieving smart / intelligent building concept by taking into consideration the energy efficiency and saving, Building Automation System (BAS), Energy Management System (EMS), Agronomics, Environmental Management System (EMS) Learning Outcomes At the end of the course, students will be able to integrate various building services related to electrical installations, concepts and requirements in compliance to the rules and regulations, code of practices and related national, international standards and relevant technical specifications. Able to integrate smart/ intelligent building concept by incorporating the aspect of building automation system, energy efficient equipment, energy saving and energy management system.
