1 INTRODUCTION
The new coils also feature cable traps and cable baluns. These features minimize the coupling of the coil to
electric fields within the body coil and thus minimize the exposure of the patient to warming associated with those
electric fields. However, the coil cannot be used in a lowpass body coil environment due to increased heating of
the baluns and traps from the high electric fields from the body coil inductive drives.
The new coils feature unique bias error detection for all four phased array coils. This means that the operator will
not be able to scan if a diode failure occurs or the coil is not plugged in properly. This is a safety improvement.
In addition, redundant passive blocking components guarantee a ‘safe in first fault condition.’
2 INSTALLATION
WARNING!
• Assure FMI 60486 is installed prior to releasing the 1.5T version of this coil to the customer. This coil will not
work in a system that has not been modified by FMI 60486.
• Coil Configuration Files are different for the Cardiac Array from any previous GE coils. Refer to Direction
2202522 for proper coil configuration information.

4 PLANNED MAINTENANCE
Planned maintenance (PMs) are proactive service visits intended to reduce the probability of failure during the
year. PMs instructions (procedures and frequencies) are based on engineering recommendations to meet safety,
regulatory, and image quality requirements. For the Cardiac Phased Array Coil product, the impact to PMs are:
• Number of PMs are not impacted by this option.
• New parts to be changed during PMs: Inspect coil and cables for wear. Replace worn components.
• There are no differences in PMs by region.
