S

Let us now move on to the

description of the
individual components of
the Elisa-Unit`s
27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 19
Pressure reducer

The pressure reducer`s for O2 and

AIR regulate the inlet pressure to a
stabilized level of approx. 270 kPa.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 20

Input pressure sensors

The pressure sensors for O2 and AIR

monitor the operating pressure of 270 kPa
reduced by the pressure reducers.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 21

Proportional valves

The gas flow of O2 and Air is controlled by

the proportional valves.
These are schematically like a water tap:
The more you turn it on, the more gas flows.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 22

Inspiratory flow measurement

The flow->pressure transducers for O2 and

air generate a differential pressure from the
generated flow, which is measured via
pressure sensors to determine the flow.

The offset valves enable a (pneumatic) zero

setting of the pressure sensor for offset
calibration during operation.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 23

Gas mixing chamber with paramagnetic O2 sensor

The paramagnetic O2 sensor is located on the inspiratory side at the

outlet of the gas mixer at the head of the mixing chamber.

To achieve fast and effective

mixing of the gases, it was
necessary to construct a
complex mixing chamber with
many coils.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 24

Inspiratory pressure measurement

The inspiratory pressure in the breathing

circuit is measured by the inspiratory
pressure sensor.
The offset valve allows (pneumatic) zeroing
of the pressure sensor for offset calibration
during operation.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 25

Temperature sensor

The temperature sensor is located on the

mixing chamber.
Its task is to adapt the measurement results
of the O2 sensor to the gas temperature.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 26

Electropneumatic safety valve

The valve opens in the event of a mains

failure, overpressure or watchdog triggering
and releases the free breathing and
overpressure valve.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 27

Free breathing valve

To avoid a system pressure below

atmospheric pressure, the mechanical
vacuum valve lets in ambient air in the event
of an open safety valve.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 28

Expiratory pressure sensor

The expiratory pressure is measured by the

expiratory pressure sensor.
The offset valve allows for a (pneumatic)
zero position of the pressure sensor for
offset calibration during operation.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 29

Expiration valve

The airway pressure within the system is

controlled by the expiration valve (PEEP
valve).

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 30

Expiratory flow sensor

The sensor is located just behind the

expiratory valve and measures the
expiratory gas flow.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 31

Expiratory flow sensor

The flow sensor is a component of an orifice

plate measuring section with which the flow Orifice plate
of a pipeline with an integrated resistor (the
so-called orifice plate) can be measured
according to the differential pressure Flow-Direction
method.

The measurement itself requires a Differential pressure sensor

differential pressure sensor and knowledge

of the substance values (viscosity and Differential pressure

density); these components of the

measurement are located inside the device.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 32

adjustable speed.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 46

Check Valve Elisa 300/500

The check valve is located inside the mixing

chamber.

- When the turbine delivers air-gas it is opened

so that air can enter the chamber.
-If air is not active and nor O2 is used, it is closed
so that no O2 can escape into the environment.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 47

General Information

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 73

Repair General Information

It is very important to use dry gases to operate the Elisa.

Moisture, dirt and oil attack and destroy the channels in the mixer, valves
and sintered metal discs.

From a certain degree

of contamination, the
device can not be
repaired, and it will be
a total loss.

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 74

Repair General Information

Oil is particularly critical: Machine oil in the air we breathe can kill a patient

If this gets into the gas system:

• The mixers CANNOT be reinstalled and MUST be replaced; repair is impossible

• The gas system in the hospital must be completely overhauled

27.03.2024 | Löwenstein Medical 75

Optionally available water separator

If the elisa 600 / 800 is operated with a

compressor, we strongly recommend
installing a water separator between the
unit and the compressor.

Item Number: 0070106

Bear in mind:
Damage caused by water, oil and
dirt is never covered by the
manufacturer's warranty.
