• Acceptance Test
─ As specified in the ISO 10360 standard, Creaform performs an acceptance test before
delivery of the system to certify that it meets the specifications. Creaform does not guarantee
the performance of its equipment outside the scope and timing of the aforementioned test
since the equipment is outside its control or supervision.
• Reverification Test
─ In order to validate that the system complies with specified requirements, ISO 10360
standard recommends to perform a reverification test periodically. Customer has the
responsibility to determine the frequency of this test. Creaform recommends, as a
starting point, to perform this reverification annually.
• Interim Check
─ The ISO 10360 standard recommends to perform an interim check between periodic
verifications to demonstrate the probability that the system complies with specified
requirements. The customer must take into account the interim check results to assess if a
reverification test needs to be executed at one of the Creaform service centers.
HANDS-ON CALIBRATION
• HDR mode
─ When the part has a high contrast texture • Clear Automatic scanning area check
(ex: white/black) box to adjust the area % in order to
• Default setting (0.15 ms and 4 ms) auto-adjust on a smaller part.
• Adjust the laser grid size in order to
─ Custom setting available see, in the 3D viewer, the adjustment
for the size of your part.
CONFIGURATION
Live feedback on the screen
Saturated Optimal Underexposed
• The objective is to maximize the yellow color on the laser grid pattern.
• Make sure to adjust the shutter time at the proper stand-off distance, use the distance meter on
the left of the screen.
CONFIGURATION
Manual Adjustment:
• Position the sensor perpendicular to the
surface
• Keep the scanner about 30 cm over the
surface as indicated by the distance meter
• Press the scan button
• Manually adjust the shutter time to reach an
optimal value as shown by a yellow pattern
CONFIGURATION
Auto. adjust function - Procedure
• Make sure the laser lines will lie completely on the surface to scan
• Adjust the scanning area if necessary: clear the Automatic scanning area
check box and adjust the scanning area % to ensure the laser lines will
shine only on the part
• Position the sensor perpendicular to the surface
• Keep the scanner about 30 cm over the surface as indicated by the
distance meter
• Click on Auto. Adjust
• Press the scan button and wait for a message indicating that the scanner
parameters have been optimized
• Click OK to exit the menu
CONFIGURATION
HDR mode:
• Choose between Off, High
Contrast, or Custom
• Allows for two different shutter
speeds to be used at the same
time
• Good for scanning high-
contrast, multi-shaded parts
HANDS-ON CONFIGURATION
─ Masking tape
─ Paint
─ Sandblasting
PART PREPARATION – POWDER
Method #1
• Spray the part
• Clean up the spots where you want to put
targets
─ Target does not stick well over powder
• Apply targets
• Scan the part
PART PREPARATION – POWDER
Method #2
• Apply targets on the part
• Put masking tape bands on each target
• Spray the part
• Remove the masking tape bands
• Scan the part

SETUP: TARGETS ACQUISITION
Spider web technique
• Using the spider web technique will decrease the cumulative errors when acquiring the targets
• The goal is to minimize the trajectory between two points when acquiring the entire model
• The error needs to be spread to the extremities
➢ Same 2 points
➢ Max Path length : 1.6m
1,6
m ➢ Cumulative error between
the points : up to 0.084mm
SETUP: SPIDER WEB TECHNIQUE
▪ Start from the center and move towards the corners
SCANNING POSITIONING TARGETS
Optimize volumetric accuracy – Activated
with Standard or Custom Finalize parameters
• After scanning the targets, select the Optimize Volumetric
Accuracy check box & Finalize
─ Recommended for larger scans (prior the surface scan)
─ This assists in obtaining a more accurate model (it will
optimize the positioning model)
• At the end of the surface acquisition
─ For optimal accuracy
SCANNING POSITIONING TARGETS

ACQUISITION RULES – DISTANCE METER
• While scanning, the laser lines projected on the object are displayed in
different colors to indicate the distance between the scanner and the
surface of the part
• LED located on the upper part of the scanner also indicates distance
ACQUISITION RULES
Classic Distance Meter Good Too close Too far
• Distance meter is displayed on the left of the
screen while scanning
• Option available in the display tab of the
navigation panel:
─ Clear the check box below to use the classic
distance meter
• The scanner will not be able to acquire data if it is too close or too far from
the part to scan

ACQUISITION RULES
Outside Scanning
• The scanner performance allows the scan to be
done under sunlight, even for black and shiny
surfaces
─ Laser lines might be hardly visible on the surface, but
acquisition works fine

ACQUISITION RULES
Single laser line
• Project laser line on the area to scan. Data will be acquired if one
or both cameras sees the laser (Mono or Stereo mode). Mono
mode allows to capture areas deeper in pockets and/or holes.
Best orientation Acceptable orientation
FINALIZE – SCAN PARAMETERS
Once the part is scanned and has been edited, the software needs to run some algorithms to
finalize scan data:
• Optimize volumetric accuracy
• Fill positioning targets
• Optimize accuracy of boundaries
• Smooth boundaries
• Reduce noise (Off / Low / High)
• Sharpen edges (Off / Low / High)
• Automatic decimate
• Automatic fill holes
❖ Finalize scan can be a long process for high resolution scans or big objects
➢ It’s possible to save session before finalizing scan (and process later)
➢ Mesh enhancement
o Improves mesh appearance (surfaces, edges, boundaries)
➢ File size
o Output a smaller file size for better data transfer
➢ Express
o Fastest computation time (most algorithms turned off)
➢ Custom
o Allow user to decide personalized settings
Note: When scanning multiple parts, the session can be saved without finalizing the
scans. The Finalize processing can be done afterwards

• Surface Best-fit
─ VXelements best-fits each scan using a pre-
alignment done by the user (usually when there’s not
enough common targets on the part)
• Global registration
─ VXelements optimizes the global alignment between
3 or more scans, best-fitting them all together
instead of one by one

BASIC ENTITIES
• Possible to extract entities using
scan data
─ Planes, circles, cylinders, cones, etc.
• Basic entities
─ Not possible to edit filters and
constraints
─ Different building modes
BASIC ALIGNMENT
The scan is originally aligned with the scanner orientation in the
first acquired frame. It’s possible to change the alignment of the
scan :
• Alignments :
─ Changes the origin and axis orientation
─ Basic alignments are available in VXscan
─ Advanced alignments available in other modules (VXmodel, VXinspect)
BASIC ALIGNMENT
Align to origin
• Sets origin on center of mass
• Aligns the main shape of the object with the origin axes
─ e.g. for a cylindrical object, aligns the cylinder axis with an axis of the origin
• Allows to manually move the object and change axes orientation
Plane-Line-Point
• Basic entity alignment
• No possible constraints
Apply alignment
• Aligns an object from a previous alignment or existing alignment file
Point selection
• Allows to align existing entity points to a specific coordinate
CLIPPING OBJECTS
• These functions are used to automatically clean the STL and reduce
session file size
• Ensures that nothing can be scanned past a certain region
• When scanning more, no data will appear below the new plane
CLIPPING OBJECTS
Clipping plane
Add Clipping
• Allows user to choose the unnecessary background to delete Plane
• When scanning more, no data will appear below the new Per Draw a line
unwanted data
• User must align the reference to the
current scan and choose a clipping
range. Anything outside the
reference boundary will not be further
scanned
