Lesson Idea Name: All about Lines and Angles

Grade Level/Content Area: 3rd

Content Standard Addressed:

3.GSR.6: Identify the attributes of polygons, including parallel segments,
perpendicular segments, right angles, and symmetry.

3.GSR.6.1: Identify perpendicular line segments, parallel line segments, and right
angles, identifying these in polygons, and solve problems involving parallel lines
segments, perpendicular line segments, and right angles.

ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be
able to do by the end of this lesson:
Empowered Learner 1d: Students use technology
to seek feedback that informs and improves their Students should be able to identify parallel and

variety of ways. Students will be able to identify right angles,
obtuse angles, and acute angles.
Students will use technology in order to learn and
practice their new knowledge of line segments
and angles.

What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea?

I can identify parallel and perpendicular lines in a real-world setting.
I can identify right, obtuse, and acute angles in a real-world setting.
I can use technology to learn and practice my new knowledge of angles and lines.
I can use technology to represent what I have learned about angles and lines, in a variety of ways.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

X Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based (Real world problems) and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems

and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

Students will engage in the presentation I prepared for them, that will introduce the topic of angles
and lines. In this presentation includes many digital tools that students will use on their own tablet
or device, in order for the teacher to access answers and discuss student data. Teacher will project
the slide on the smart board in order to help students move from one tool to another. Students will
use their prior knowledge of angles and lines, or even shapes, in order to make real-world
connections when learning about angles and lines. As we move throughout the presentation,
students will have multiple choice questions to answer, questions that require an audio response,
and writing prompts that require a paragraph response. Teacher will use the digital learning tools in
order to assess student learning and decide if the lesson plan was beneficial or could be improved.
Managing student learning:
I believe that this lesson will allow students to become active learners because there are many
different tools that are being used in order to deepen their understanding of the topic. All digital
tools will have time limits in order to keep students focused, but not so strict that students will hurry
and not try their best. Receiving accurate data is an important part of using these digital tools, and it
is the teacher’s responsibility to provide students with the tools they need in order to do their best.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

I think this lesson will support student engagement because there are many different tools being
used throughout the lesson and students love to try new things. Each digital tool will challenge
students to use critical thinking skills and either type, speak, or choose their answer or response.
Keeping students engaged in the classroom helps them to learn more efficiently and holds them
accountable for their learning experience.
Reflective Practice:
I think that students can use these tools in order to grow their knowledge on this specific subject.
Using digital tools allows all students the accommodations that they need in order to be successful
in the classroom. I am most excited to introduce the discussion board to find out what students liked
about the lesson and what they would change, and using Blooket because students love to challenge
their friends, and it lets students practice their mathematical skills.
