Content Standard Addressed: S2P1.a. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the
properties of matter and changes that occur in objects. Ask questions to describe and classify
different objects according to their physical properties.
ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be
able to do by the end of this lesson:

questions that they can ask about physical
properties.
What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea?
Students will be able to name, describe, and classify different objects according to their physical properties.
Students will be able to communicate information about matter and changes that occur in objects.
How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
✘ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
☐ Problem-based (Real world problems) and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation: First I will begin the lesson by introducing the standard and breaking
down the standard. I will list and explain our learning goals for the lesson and the outcomes that we

would like to achieve. I will pause to ask students if they have any questions and then I will begin our
class discussion. The class discussion will start by asking student “What do they know about matter”,
and “How would they describe a solid, liquid, or gas.” Then, after having a discussion with students
about their prior knowledge, I will introduce Padlet and show them how they will be using it to build
on their learning about solids, liquid, and gas. This Padlet will have multiple means of representation
and will be engaging for students as they will be able to have fun with different activities while they
are learning. I will show and go through Padlet features so students know how to use them and I will
pause to see if students have any questions about what I have said so far. I will tell students to take
out their computers and I will provide the link to the Padlet activity so that students can begin, and I
will let students know that they are allowed to move at their own pace as they work independently. I
will also let students know that if they have any questions, they can ask their peers first and if they
still have questions they may come and as me and I will assist them. I will be walking around to see
how students are doing throughout the activity, and I will provide feedback when necessary. The
Padlet I created will assess students learning through open ended questions, games, quizzes,
reflection task, and an exit ticket.
Managing student learning:
The tools I used for creating my lesson were Padlet, Edpuzzle, Blooket, Kahoot, and Quizizz. I used
the tools so that students can have an interactive learning experience while promoting engagement
and giving students the opportunity to learn at a comfortable pace. These tools were all interactive
and offered different features like multiple choice responses, true or false responses, open-ended
questions, fill in the blank, and drawing. Students are able to take ownership of their own learning as
they completed the activities. I set a timer within the activities to make sure that students had
enough time to complete them. I also gave students the choice to facilitate co-engagement by using
the ask three then me strategy where they ask their peers first and if they still do not understand
then then can ask me for clarification. I also incorporated a discussion that will be shared amongst
their peers and then discussed as a whole group.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Padlet is a technology tool that supports and enhances students learning through interactive
activities and other digital tools while they are in the classroom. The activities that I have planned for
the students support the engagement, representation, and action and expression that makes up the
UDL framework. With these interactive tools students can communicate and collaborate as the
explore a variety of ways to understand the lesson. This lesson will impact students learning as they
become comfortable utilizing their independence to enhance and build on their own learning.
Reflective Practice:
After designing this lesson, I do believe that this tool will help students build an understanding in a
way that they could not do with traditional tools because they have accessibility to a variety of
interactive features that they can go back a look at if they need to. Designing this artifact will
motivate and encourage students to learn and apply their critical thinking skills. Most importantly
the students will be able to have fun while they are learning, and they will not become bored of
what they are doing. I look forward to implementing the artifact and seeing students take ownership

of their learning and seeing how it will cater to their diverse learning needs.
