heartfelt appreciation goes out to Prof. B S Murty and the entire faculty at IIT H for their tireless dedication
and for their exceptional contributions in transforming IITH into a technology hub for the 21st century.

Let me now share a few thoughts with the graduating class and this distinguished gathering.
As we stand here today, a vibrant future awaits us, filled with infinite possibilities. And at the heart of this
promising future lies the phenomenal power of technology. Technology has transformed the world we live in
and continues to shape our lives in unprecedented ways. It has become an indispensable tool for fuelling
progress, driving innovation, and transforming industries across the globe.

First and foremost, it is essential to acknowledge the rapid advancements in various technology domains.
From artificial intelligence to Generative AI, from satellites to renewable energy, technology has evolved at
an astonishing pace. It has become the driving force behind ground breaking developments that have
disrupted traditional industries and provided new avenues for growth. These advancements have
empowered us to unravel mysteries, enhance connectivity, improve efficiency, and even extend the
boundaries of human capability.

11
Graduates, you stand on the threshold of an era where your skills and knowledge in technology hold
immense promise. Through your dedication and expertise, you have acquired the ability to conquer
challenges, to innovate, and to create change. Today, I implore you to harness the power of technology to
shape a transformative future. Imagine a world where technology eradicates hunger – where machine
learning algorithms analyse agricultural data to optimize crop yields, where precision farming techniques
ensure efficient resource utilization, and where remote sensing and drones provide early warnings to prevent
crop diseases. This future is within your grasp. Envision a society where healthcare is revolutionized – where
artificial intelligence aids in early disease detection, wearable technology monitors vital signs to prevent
health emergencies, and telemedicine connects patients to doctors thousands of miles away. Your expertise
can make this vision a reality. Consider a planet powered by renewable energy – where solar panels blanket
rooftops, wind turbines harness the power of the wind, and smart grids intelligently manage energy
distribution. Your knowledge can contribute to combating climate change and building a sustainable future.
How about a world where technology accelerates education – where virtual reality creates immersive
learning experiences, where online platforms provide equal access to education for all, and where adaptive
learning algorithms personalize education to each student's needs. Graduates, you have the capability to
democratize education and unleash its full potential.

However, as we embark on this transformative journey, we must also recognize the ethical considerations
that come with advancing technology. The power of technology should always be guided by an ethical
compass, ensuring that its application benefits humanity as a whole. We must prioritize privacy, consider the
societal impact of our creations, and actively work towards inclusive technology that does not deepen
existing divides. As graduates, it is your responsibility to lead with integrity, empathy, and a strong sense of
ethics in all your technological endeavours. Yet, technology alone cannot herald the transformative future we
envision. Collaboration and interdisciplinary efforts play a critical role in shaping that future. The challenges
of the world are complex and multifaceted, requiring diverse perspectives, fresh ideas, and collective action.
Graduates, embrace collaboration, seek partnerships, and pool your talents with individuals from different
backgrounds - whether they be from science, arts, or business. Together, we can create the synergy needed
to solve pressing global problems.

Additionally, the world of technology is ever-evolving. Knowledge that you acquire today might become
obsolete in a few years. Thus, a commitment to lifelong learning is paramount. Embrace curiosity, stay
hungry for knowledge, and continuously update your skills to stay relevant in this rapidly changing
landscape. Attend conferences, pursue certifications, engage in professional development, and adapt to new
tools and technologies. Remain agile and consistently strive for growth. As we look to the future, we are not
alone in this journey. Countless technologists, entrepreneurs, and innovators have blazed a trail before us.
Let their stories inspire you. Consider the remarkable achievements of pioneers like Mr N. R. Narayana
Murthy, Co-founder of Infosys. Murthy has been instrumental in shaping the Indian IT industry. His leadership
has transformed Infosys from a small start-up into a globally recognized technology services and consulting
company. Mr Nandan Nilekani, another Co-founder of Infosys and former Chairman of the Unique
Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Nandan has been instrumental in driving technology-led initiatives in
India far and beyond Infosys. His work on the Aadhaar project, a unique identification system is
commendable. Mr Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet Inc., played a pivotal role in the development of key
Google products, including Google Chrome and Google Cloud Platform. Sundar's leadership and vision have
contributed to Google's continued success and expansion into various technological domains.

Graduates, these IIT alumni, along with numerous others, have made trailblazing progress in the fields of
technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Their exceptional skills and expertise serve as an inspiration
for others to follow suit and make their mark. As you leave the confines of this institution equipped with
knowledge, skills, and a degree in technology, remember that the power to shape the future is now in your
hands. Embrace it with both enthusiasm and responsibility. Be bold in your ambitions, strive for excellence,
and dare to dream big. Believe in the transformative power of technology and work tirelessly with unwavering
dedication to create positive change.

Thank you, and once again, congratulations on your graduation!

It is this passion and commitment that makes everyone in ISRO work wonders in space technology. The
expanse of space always fascinated human beings. To expand the reach to the frontiers of the universe has
always been humanities' dream. Humans thus conquered the skies and outer space to satisfy their
indomitable spirit.

The conquest of space is the result of the development of rocket science, the launch vehicle, which gave the
necessary controlled power to boost the velocity of a spacecraft to be placed in an orbit around Earth. I am
particularly proud of the fact that we developed the indigenous capability to travel, overcoming the gravity
field of Earth to place our own spacecraft in orbits from Indian soil.

I am particularly fortunate to work at ISRO centres, where Dr Vikram Sarabhai, focussed on the use of space
technology to find solutions to the problems of people and society and to empower the country to have a self-
reliant programme for building and launching state-of-the-art satellites from our country using our own launch
vehicles.

In the later part of your life, some of you will turn out to be specialists in some domain, some of you will be
revered for your accomplishments, some will evolve into visionaries who will create splendid ideas and see
their fruition in their lifetime, some will be institution builders, some great teachers, some will be great
humanitarians, some good business leaders. These possibilities indicate that there are great opportunities to
be explored. You can evolve into whatever form of person you want. That will be the results of the choices
you make and the results of the determined efforts that will follow to make the choice into a reality.

In ISRO, we work with all types of professionals, engineers of all branches, pure scientists of physics,
chemistry and natural sciences and even botany, geography etc. Some of the new requirements are to work
with the biomedical domain and even medical doctors. When we embark on human space flight, we need
medical doctors to study the metabolism and human physic in surviving the extreme conditions of flight,
which include high acceleration and vibration sensitivity, weightlessness, and prolonged exposure to mild
radiations. We are currently developing and designing a test set-up to evaluate them. The multidisciplinary
technical skill available to us will enable us to do this in ISRO, working closely with some passionate people.

In the coming years, much technology growth is forecast in the field of engineering that will make significant
changes in your profession as well. With the advent of technology, the conquest of hunger and disease is
almost achieved in the last 50 years. The average life span of human beings has increased substantially.
One of the important desires of humans is to beat death or to live as long as possible. How to make it
possible is going to be the leading research in the times to come. But it won’t be affordable immediately to all.
This will be achieved from a better understanding of genomics and its engineering, as well as the
development of technologies to replace human organs and the complete body itself.

The growth in material science, microelectronics, quantum technologies, data sciences, AI&ML,
biotechnology will make life of human being much better than that we have today. Harnessing the power of
technology is the only solution to solve the challenging problems of poverty, malnutrition, security of the
nation, education and job for all for our nation. We must remember the fact that in the new and emerging
world order, the power is in the hands of the nation who has the best of the technology and not always with
the one who has large natural resources. The graduates coming out of this institute have the responsibility to
play a vital role in transforming India into the most sought-after country for everyone to live peacefully by
appropriate application of technologies.

Let me dwell into space technology for a while. I always wonder, whether it is necessary for human beings to
travel to space to explore other planets; why not robots do the job instead? One of the difficulties that the
robots lack is the feel of sensory perception and emotions that come out of the experiences and the resultant
decision making ability. Suppose we find a way to merge the external electronic sensors to our nervous
systems electrically, receive and process the signals as we see and feel, then we will achieve one step closer
to the integration of machine with life. Can we actuate systems with the electrical signal generated by thought
and thus to external mechanical and electrical devices?

14
This is now made possible to some extent. Further growth in this domain will enable all the sensors of a robot
to be integrated to a human in some form to perceive what the robot feel and thus achieve the remote
perception capability. In such an eventuality, it is not necessary for humans to travel anywhere; so, you can
sit inside your room and experience the world, including outer space and all other planets. This will enable
long time space journey possible, so when the robot walk on Mars, it will be you, who feels the ecstasy.
Progressively, the human form will evolve into an integrated system of electrical sensors and devices with the
brain. So no more human physical bodies will be necessary.

As an engineer and scientist, I consider the rocket like a baby, seeing its birth, its growth, its problems of
growth, its emotions and develop a deep understanding of its mechanics and dynamics and its life as such.
In every flight of a rocket and many ground tests, we get thousands of measurements, we plot them as
curves and study models and explain how it performs, and see the imminent dangers and prescribe
medicines as corrective actions. Living with rocket technology for many years, and working with extremely
talented people in ISRO, I have learnt many lessons that I wish to share.

1. Learn to work in a team, the limit of accomplishments does not exist for a strong and well lead team.
2. Always develop a sense of deeper understanding in at least one subject or domain and create a breadth of
knowledge in many other connected or unconnected domains.
3. Recognition for your work should come from the peers and not from the bosses.
4. You should be able to enjoy whatever you do, if not, it is not worth pursuing.
5. Opportunities won’t come always. Prepare oneself for the opportunities. This is through continuous
learning and developing enthusiasm in whatever we do.

Time is a great leveller and is to be experientially savoured. Not as a burden of work but as an opportunity to
create. To reach and understand that state may take quite a bit of time and effort, but it is worth. The
professional life offers you a great opportunity to be creative.

Every engineer is a professional and is expected to be creative and the possibilities are immense. You are
now embarking on a most exciting journey. Today, you are completing a long and gradual transition from
being a guided student; to a new phase as a highly-qualified independent professional. As students of this
great institution, I urge that as you move ahead for the great unknown, that you maintain a reflective and
questioning mind; seek career opportunities that are daring and intellectually challenging as it is such paths
that will provide you with a deep sense of fulfilment. I trust that you will make those choices that will make
your family and our country proud.

In the challenging times prevailing today, our country needs you more than ever; needs your talent, your
ideas, your energy, and your great enthusiasm. So I have great confidence that you will build both successful
and fulfilling careers.

You all occupy the upper strata of our knowledge society, and it is vital that you integrate and apply your
wisdom in ways that enable our country to evolve into a formidable economy, as the health of individuals
decides the health of a country. I would like to extend to all of you my very best wishes as you take on the
task of building the India of the future.

I congratulate all of you once again and wish every one of you an exciting, challenging and rewarding journey
ahead in your life and career and may you fulfil all your dreams.

Finally, have a great life. Strive to bring benefits of your learning for the betterment of society and the Nation.
Make your parents and teachers proud of you.

Good luck. Thank you all.
