Why Ireland?
Situated in north-western part of Europe, Ireland is the
second-largest island of the British Isles, and the
third-largest in Europe. Owing to its high quality education
system, Ireland is a popular study abroad destination for
students from around the world. The government of
Ireland is committed to supporting education and offers a
host of scholarships and funding to attract international
students.

1. World Class Education:

Ireland has a worldwide reputation for having an


excellent education system. There are 9
prestigious universities and about 15 technology
institutes in Ireland. There are also many public
universities in Ireland for students looking for
affordable tuition costs. Trinity College Dublin is
Ireland's most prestigious university, ranked #1
in Ireland and 101st in the world (QS world
rankings). Approximately, 35,000 international
students study in Ireland every year.

The Ireland student visa allows you to work for


up to 20 hours per week during the university
semester, and upto 40 hours per week during
semester break. You can work in any sector
including retail, hospitality, administration.
Many universities will also offer a careers
service for students that can assist you in
finding work while you are studying, as well as
after graduation.

Pathway to Permanent Residency (PR):

permanent residency after they graduate. To do
so, you must apply for a work permit from the
Irish Immigration Authorities. After staying in
Ireland for 5 years on a general work permit, you
can apply for a PR. For students who are able to
obtain the critical skills employment permit can
apply for a PR after 2 years.

Requirements for postgraduate study in Ireland
All postgraduate courses are given in English and students applying for degree courses must be able
to speak, read and write the language fluently.

You must meet the below requirements to be able to study in Ireland :

● Minimum 55%-75% in Graduation


● IELTS 6.5* with no band less than 6.0.
● IELTS 6 with no band less than 5.5 is also acceptable in some
Universities, Institute of Technologies and Colleges.

Working while studying in Ireland


One of the most common questions that students want to know is whether they can work while studying
in Ireland. The answer is a resounding yes! The Ireland student visa allows you to work for up to 40
hours per week during college vacations (from June to September and December to January) and 20
hours part-time per week in term time.

The flexible hours and large number of opportunities in these industries make these ideal for students:

Retail - including supermarkets, department stores, boutiques

Ireland student visa
If you’re applying for a postgraduate course in Ireland, you will need to apply for a ‘D study visa’.
To be eligible to apply for the visa, you must be enrolled in a full-time course on the the Interim List of
Eligible Programmes (ILEP).

You will need to provide the following with your visa application. (Please remember, original documents
are required and must be in English or accompanied by a notarised translation):

● Letter of acceptance from a recognised school or college or university in Ireland


● Proof of your ability to pursue the course through the English language (through a standardized
test like the IELTS)
● Proof that the fees for the course have been paid in full.
● Proof that you have enough funds (€7,000) for the initial part of your stay.
● Proof that you or a sponsor have access to at least €7,000 for each subsequent year of your
studies, in addition to the course fees for each of those years.
● Proof of private medical insurance
● An explanation of any gaps in your educational history
● Confirmation that you intend to return to your country of
permanent residence when you leave Ireland.

After post-graduation - what next? Pathways to permanent


residency
Ireland provides a post study work visa for 2 years for international students who have completed their
masters / post-graduation from Ireland. If you want to apply for Permanent Residency, you need to stay
a total of 5 years in Ireland on a general work permit to become eligible to apply. In case you hold a
Critical Skills Employment Permit, then you require only 2 years of stay in Ireland to be eligible for
Permanent Residency. Critical Skills Employment Permit is designed to
attract highly skilled people into the labour market with the aim of
encouraging them to take up permanent residence in Ireland. The
completion of 5 years or 2 years is calculated from the time of
registration for the residence permit at GNIB 9 (Garda National
Immigration Bureau). After living in Ireland for a period of 5 years post
permanent residency, one becomes eligible to apply for citizenship of
Ireland.
